Maryland Junior Future Trials: Corner Infield Analysis

This year's Junior Future Trials at the Maryland Sportsplex featured over 40 players from across the Old Line State, Delaware and Virginia. Players participated in a pro-style workout and threw bullpens in front of our PBR Maryland and Mid-Atlantic staff. Below are evaluations on the eight corner infielders at the event.
CORNER INFIELDERS

Brycen Altland RHP / 3B / Rising Sun, MD / 2026
Body: 5’4”, 144 pounds. Athletic body type. Hit: Switch. Hits from a balanced, slightly open stance from the left side. Smooth back load with some hand separation and a shorter stride. Stays behind the ball well with balance throughout and middle to pull side line drive tendencies. Hits from a more upright, square stance from the right side. Shorter stride with solid hand separation and a smooth back load. Stays behind the ball well with a more level swing path and line drive tendencies to the whole field. Power: 75 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Arm: RH. INF - 57 mph. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Defense: Plays through the ball from an athletic base with active feet. Fields the ball out in front and funnels to the belt with quick, clean exchanges. Showed smooth actions on plays side to side with some range and soft hands. Run: 9.50 60-Yard Time.

Body: 6’4”, 175 pounds. Tall, lanky, athletic body frame. Hit: LHH. Hits from a tall, balanced, slightly open stance at the plate. Smooth back load with some hand separation and an elongated stride. Quick hands through contact with a more level swing path, maintaining solid balance throughout. Stays behind the ball well with a slight recoil in the back swing. Strong middle to pull side line drive approach. Power: 80 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Projectable pop to the pull side as strength develops and the body continues to fill out. Arm: LH. INF - 70 mph. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Defense: Plays through the ball well, fielding it out in front with soft hands and quick feet. Clean exchanges with solid momentum towards the target. Run: 8.01 60-Yard Time.

Casey Carpenter 3B / 1B / John Carroll , MD / 2025
Body: 6’0”, 180 pounds. Strong, athletic, projectable frame Hit: RHH. Hits from a balanced, slightly open stance at the plate. Smooth, quick back load with a bigger leg kick into a shorter stride. Hands show rhythm with quick, whippy bat speed through the zone and a level swing path. Ball comes off the bat well with some barrel awareness and strong lower half involvement with solid extension through and past contact. Strong one handed finish and a really nice gap-to-gap line drive approach. Power: 92 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Present pop to the pull side with more projected as the body continues to fill out. Arm: RH. INF - 72 mph. Throws with shorter arm action from a mid to high three-quarter slot. Defense: Plays through the ball really well with quick, active feet and solid momentum towards the target. Fields the ball out in front with soft hands and fluid actions with quick, clean exchanges. Shows solid range side to side with a slight glove tap in exchange. Run: 8.16 60-Yard Time.

Dalton Cole RHP / 1B / John Carroll, MD / 2026
Body: 5’10”, 150 pounds. Athletic body type. Hit: RHH. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched, open stance at the plate. Quick back load with some hand separation and a bigger leg kick stride. Hands stay inside the ball well with a more level swing path. Maintains solid balance throughout the swing with some extension past contact. Middle of the field line drive approach. Power: 77 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Arm: RH. INF - 58 mph. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Defense: Fields the ball to the glove side with active feet. Exchanges are quick and clean with some momentum towards the target. Run: 9.99 60-Yard Time.

Collin Kight 1B / RHP / North Harford , MD / 2026
Body: 5’9”, 158 pounds. Athletic body type. Hit: RHH. Hits from a balanced, square stance at the plate. Hands start forward with a smooth back load and some hand separation. Quick knee-to-knee load and shorter stride with some bat speed through contact. Slightly uphill swing path, creating solid extension through contact with a slight recoil in the backswing. Hands stay inside the ball well with line drive tendencies to the gaps and alleys. Power: 81 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Arm: RH. INF - 64 mph. Throws with longer arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Defense: Plays through the ball well with active feet. Fields the ball in closer to the body, funneling to the belt with clean exchanges. Creates solid momentum through the ball and showed some range around the bag. Run: 8.63 60-Yard Time.

Orvy Potts 1B / RHP / Caravel Academy, DE / 2025
Body: 5’10”, 205 pounds. Physical frame. Hit: RHH. Hits from an upright, balanced stance at the plate. Smooth back load with a shorter toe-tap stride and nice hand separation. Attacks the ball with intent with some bat speed and a slightly uphill swing path. Creates natural lift through the swing and keeps his hands inside well with a strong two-handed finish. Solid middle of the field approach with strength to the pull side gap. Power: 79 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Some pop to the pull side. Arm: RH. INF - 69 mph. Throws with shorter arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Defense: Plays through the ball well, fielding it out in front with active feet. Creates solid momentum throughout with a quick glove tap in exchange. Run: 8.66 60-Yard Time.

Jake Pruitt 1B / C / Undecided, MD / 2026
Body: 6’0”, 175 pounds. Strong, athletic frame. Hit: RHH. Hits from a slightly crouched, balanced stance at the plate. Smooth back load with really nice hand separation and a bigger leg kick stride. Slightly uphill swing path with solid extension through and past contact. Some lower half involvement and stays behind the ball well with a strong middle to pull side approach. Power: 85 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Present pop to the pull side with more projected as the body continues to fill out. Arm: RH. INF - 68 mph. Throws with shorter arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Defense: Fields the ball in closer to the body and funnels to the belt with clean exchanges. Active feet with soft hands and showed some range around the bag. Run: 8.77 60-Yard Time.

Sam Rosand RHP / 3B / Landon School, VA / 2025
Body: 5’11”, 165 pounds. Strong, athletic body type. Hit: RHH. Hits from an upright, balanced, open stance at the plate. Hands start back at the top of the hitting zone with some hand separation and a smooth back load. Knee-to-knee load and bigger leg kick stride with quick hands through contact. Attacks the ball with intent and stays behind it well with solid rhythm and balance throughout. Slightly uphill swing path with solid extension through contact and a slight recoil in the back swing. Strong lower half involvement with some barrel awareness and a strong two-handed finish. Middle to pull side approach with strength to the pull side gap. Power: 85 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Present pop to the pull side with more projected. Arm: RH. INF - 69 mph. Throws with shorter arm action from a low three-quarter slot. Defense: Plays through the ball with fluid actions and quick, active feet. Fields the ball out in front, funneling to the belt with a slight glove tap into quick, clean exchanges. Showed solid range side to side with the ability to throw from various arm slots. Run: 8.02 60-Yard Time.
