This week we take one final look at the the roster from our Future Games Trials at the University of Maryland. We continue today with a full analysis of the middle infielders starting with our top performers.
TOP MIDDLE INFIELD PERFORMERS
Ethan McCormick SS / RHP / Archbishop Spalding , MD / 2020Athletic, lanky body type and 6-foot-1, 160 pound frame. Hits from a taller, balanced, slightly open stance at the plate. Fluid rhythm and stays balanced throughout his swing. Shorter, slightly uphill swing path with quick hands and fast bat speed. Gets nice extension through contact and lower half involvement. There is also some power in his swing to the pull side. Exit velo was 85 mph. Plays with active feet in the infield and showed very smooth fielding actions. Clean exchange and fluid footwork. Throws with short arm action from a low three-quarters slot at 78 mph. Ran a 5.08 home-to-first time. |
Christopher Hagan C / 2B / Gerstell Academy, MD / 2020Solid, athletic body type and 5-foot-8, 200 pound frame. Hits from a taller slightly open stance. High leg kick and short, smooth back load for rhythm and timing. Creates nice hand separation and swings the bat with intent. Explosive lower half, quick hands, and fast bat speed evident. Short uphill swing path with an exit exit velo of 83 mph. Gap-to-gap type hitter with some power present. Athletic in the infield and plays through the ball with soft hands, fluid footwork, and showed a quick, clean exchange. Funnels ball to belt and throws with a short arm action from a high three-quarters slot at 78 mph. Ran a 5.06 home-to-first time. |
Matthew Bobrowski SS / OF / Leonardtown, MD / 2020Athletic body type and 5-foot-9, 155 pound frame with room to grow. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly closed stance at the plate. High leg kick and rock-back load. Good hand separation and stays behind the ball well. Gets some lower half involvement and showed quick hands. Longer slightly uphill swing path with an exit velo of 86 mph. Line drive type hitter with occasional pop. Athletic and plays through the ball on the infield with quick footwork and a quick, clean exchange. Longer arm action throwing from a low three-quarters arm slot at 75 mph. Ran a 4.24 home-to-first time. |
Matthew Rodriguez SS / 2B / John Carroll, MD / 2020Solid, compact, athletic body type and 5-foot-11, 180 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched, and open stance at the plate. High leg kick and drops hands during load. Gets them back up and in position by foot-strike. Creates good separation. Utilizes his lower half well and showed some bat speed. Short, level swing path and an exit velo of 81 mph. Gap-to-gap type hitter with some pop. Plays with active feet and fluid footwork in the infield. Has soft hands, plays through the ball and showed a quick, clean exchange. Smooth fielding rhythm and actions. Throws with a shorter arm action and showed the ability to throw well from all arm angles at 79 mph. Ran a 4.77 home-to-first time. |
Andrew Rickard SS / RHP / Archbishop Curley, MD / 2020Solid, compact, and athletic body type with a 5-foot-7, 165 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched, and closed stance. Use a toe tap for timing and gets good hand separation. Stays behind the ball well with some lower half involvement and bat speed. Exit velo up 86 mph. Gets uphill slightly through contact and has a short level swing path. Took two very nice rounds of BP spraying line drives gap-to-gap. Athletic and plays through the ball in the infield with quick feet, soft hands, and showed a clean exchange. Short arm action throwing from a low three-quarter slot at 79 mph. Ran a 4.17 home-to-first time. |

Jake Becker 2B/SS Sherwood 2021
Athletic body type and 5-foot-7, 145 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, square stance at the plate. Quick rock-back load and small toe tap. Gets some lower half involvement in swing. Really quick hands and fast bat speed. Short, level swing path with an exit velo of 77 mph. Line drive type hitter and used the whole field during BP. Athletic and plays with active feet in the infeld. Stays low and plays through the ball with soft hands. Fluid footwork and clean exchanges. Longer arm action throwing from a low three-quarter slot at 76 mph. Ran a 4.50 home-to-first time from the left side.
Mason Burke 2B/C Loyola Blakefield 2021
Athletic body type and 5-foot-8, 140 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, open stance at the plate with weight on back side. Starts swing with a small leg kick and short smooth back load for rhythm. Gets nice hand separation and generates some lower half involvement. Also showed some bat speed and a short slightly uphill swing path. Exit velo was 80 mph. Line drive type hitter with some pop to the gaps. Plays through the ball on the infield and showed a quick, clean exchange. Throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 76 mph. Ran a 4.81 home-to-first time from the left side.
Kristopher Lotharp SS Middletown (DE) 2019
Athletic body type and 5-foot-5, 145 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched, open stance. Uses a high leg kick and smooth back load for rhythm and timing. Creates some hand separation and shows nice lower half involvement. Quick hands and an exit velo of 78 mph. Short, level swing path. Line drive, gap-to-gap type hitter. Very athletic and moves well in the infield. Great balance and set-up. Plays through the ball with fluid footwork, soft hands and quick, clean exchanges. Long arm action throwing from the side at 76 mph. Ran a 4.76 home-to-first time.
Jouseph Rodriguez SS/2B Edgewood 2020
Athletic body type and 5-foot-8, 130 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly open, wider base. Has a short, quick rock-back load and short, level swing path. Showed some lower half involvement and bat speed. Exit velo was 72 mph. Line drive type hitter. Athletic, moves well, and plays through the ball in the infield. Showed soft hands and threw with short arm actions from a lower three-quarters arm slot at 71 mph. Ran a 4.68 home-to-first time.
Jason Rodriguez SS/2B Edgewood 2019
Athletic body type and 5-foot-8, 147 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, athletic, slightly open stance. Uses a small leg kick for rhythm and timing. Showed quick hands and fast bat speed. Gets some lower half involvement and has little wasted movement at the plate. Short, slightly uphill swing path and 69 mph exit velo. Line drive type hitter. Athletic and plays with active feet in the infield. Plays through the ball with soft hands. Gets low and sets up well to the ball. Throws with short arm action from a low three-quarter slot at 72 mph. Ran a 4.57 home-to-first time.
(Landon) Bryce Whitney 2B/SS Patuxent 2021
Athletic body type and 5-foot-8, 140 pound frame. Hits from a balanced, slightly open stance with front knee slightly inverted. Shorter, quick rock-back load and good hand separation. Showed some bat speed and lower half involvement. Short, level swing with an exit velo of 78 mph. Line drive type hitter. Plays through the ball in the infield and showed good hands and a clean exchange. Throws with a long arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 74 mph. Ran a 4.41 home-to-first time.
Joshua Wilson 2B/SS Bishop McNamara 2021
Athletic, lanky body type and 5-foot-7, 130 pound frame with room to grow. Hits from a balanced, athletic, square stance. Quiet body at the plate with little wasted movement. Quick back load for rhythm and short stride. Short, level swing path with quick hands and some lower half involvement. Line drive type hitter that sprayed the ball all over the field during BP. Exit velo was 79 mph. Very athletic and moves well in the infield. Plays with active feet and showed fluid footwork, soft hands, and quick, clean exchanges. Funnels the ball to belt and throws with short arm action from a high three-quarter slot at 73 mph. Ran a 4.32 home-to-first time.
