New England Insider: Top 2017 Uncommitted Two-Way Prospects
With the Summer season coming to an end and the 2016-2017 high school sports season as well as fall ball getting underway, we would like to take a look at some of the top uncommitted prospects at each position.
Today we are look at the top uncommitted senior two-way prospects in the New England Region. We will look to create a few top uncommitted lists each week, as you can see by our 2017 Player Rankings there are numerous talented prospects available.
Frank Diorio
Rank: 39th in New England Class of 2017
Scouting Report: Versatile athlete who can play just about anywhere on the field. Runs it down in the outfield, shows good awareness off the bat. Threw 84 from the outfield with accuracy. At first, he has an excellent glove and handles the position with ease. Ran a 4.63 on his dig to first base, that will need to go back down to where it was last year. The bat has plus life from both side, tee exit velocity of 94 mph from the right side and 92 mph from the left side. The set ups are very similar from both sides. Wide base, slight bat wrap and quick hands. The path is flatter from the right side as opposed the left side. Shows power from the right side as well. On the mound, shows plus stuff. The fastball is 82-84 mph with sink and action to it. The spin pitch is plus, with depth, sitting at 74 mph. Showed an average changeup at 78 mph, small tweak can fix that up. Good looking prospect.
College Outlook: We like him as a left-handed relieving specialist, who also switch-hits. Can play in the outfield and at first base. Very good defender at both positions. The bat is better from the right-side, shows good athleticism across the board.
