McGee Likes Idea Of Staying Near Home At Northeastern

HANOVER, Ma. - Staying near home was a big factor in the college decision for Sean McGee. 

When Northeastern entered the picture, it was an easy choice for the Thayer Academy sophomore.

“I didn’t think I could find a better place than Northeastern,” McGee explained about making a commitment at this point in time. “I love that it’s close to home. That was a really big thought for me. I really connected with the coaching staff and just felt it was the right place at the right time.”

In deciding on the Colonial Athletic Conference school located 40 minutes from his Hanover home, McGee initially began getting interest from Northeastern a little more than two months ago.

“I went to a camp at the end of August once the summer season ended and started talking with them after that,” the 30th-rated 2022 in New England reflected. “I went on a visit Sept. 18 and they offered me.”

Wake Forest, Penn State and Elon were others McGee was considering along with Boston College where he made his only other visit. But Northeastern just proved too right for the 6-0 150-pound middle infielder 

“I feel I really connected with the coaching staff there,” McGee said. “I learned a lot from them in the short amount of time I was there and it just felt like the place I wanted to be. Academics is also a plus there. I weighed that in a lot. It was the school, the facilities … everything.”

McGee pointed to two aspects that Northeastern was enamoured with about him.

“They like how I’m a mult-sport athlete and that I’m a local guy from Massachusetts,” noted McGee, who plays basketball in addition to baseball at Thayer Academy..
