Over this past weekend Prep Baseball Report Louisiana had a chance to spend time at several games around the state. If you subscribe, the Louisiana Scout Blog has been updated with full scouting reports and video on a few of the prospects seen.

On Friday, we checked in to Kirsch Rooney Stadium to catch Pensacola State right-hander Hunter Kiel, who would eventually commit to Louisiana State during the weekend. Kiel was electric in 5 innings of work punching out hitters with ease and a fastball up to 96 mph.

Saturday, PBR-Louisiana made the trip to Ponchatula, LA to check out Brother Martin HS and Ponchatula HS. With about a dozen scouts on hand to check out prospects Michael Kirsch, Simon Landry, Blair Frederick, and Keagan Gillies, there was a lot to see. Being early February, Frederick and Gillies looked to be about 85% with their fastballs in two innings of work apiece. But both showed quality secondary stuff, and had clean innings of work.

Ponchatula first baseman, Simon Landry, put on a display in pre-game batting practice that had people buzzing. In game he showed fluid actions at the dish with explosive bat speed, and it is clear he has done some work the last few months leaning up his frame.

Michael Kirsch had perhaps the best day of anyone in the brief look we had. His two at-bats were well struck, and he hit a long double to the left-center gap that most likely would have left the yard if the wind wasn’t blowing in.

From there, PBR-Louisiana headed to Live Oak HS as St.Amant HS was set to face off against Live Oak. Within minutes of arriving, Live Oak’s Preston Faulkner (2017) deposited a towering 2-run home run over the left field wall. St. Amant’s Blayne Enlow saw an inning of work, and was extremely efficient, throwing eight pitches. Seven fastballs that ranged from 90-91 mph and one slider at 80 mph. He struck out one and induced two ground balls.
