Power 25 Rankings Updated
March 26, 2018
The Prep Baseball Report Louisiana Power 25 rankings have been updated, as we head into week five of the 2018 spring season. The top five largely stays intact in the update, as Zachary HS (21-1) retains its number 1 ranking, followed by Sam Houston HS (21-1), who suffered their first loss of the season this week.
John Curtis HS (15-2) remains at No. 3 in the update, as the Patriot offense is beginning to click on all cylinders. Louisiana State recruit, 2018 1B Cade Beloso (John Curtis HS, LA) continues to make the case that he’s the premier hitter in the state of Louisiana, as the future Tiger added another homer this week, one that went extremely far if we might add. As well, Louisiana State recruit, 2018 RHP Will Ripoll (John Curtis HS, LA) tossed a perfect game on Thursday in his first outing in Catholic League play, striking out 12 of the 15 batters he faced. The firepower of the Patriot offense has garnered plenty of respect over the last few years, and rightfully so, but its worth noting that the Patriot’s pitching staff is arguably the most talented in the state as well. Coach Jeff Curtis has a multitude of weapons at his disposal on the mound, with four college commitments in Ripoll, Mississippi Gulf Coast CC, 2018 RHP Ian Landreneau (John Curtis HS, LA), Louisiana-Lafayette recruit, 2019 LHP/OF Dax Ford (John Curtis HS, LA), and Tulane recruit, 2018 OF/RHP Logan Stevens (John Curtis HS, LA). The pitching depth will certainly be challenged this week, as the Patriots head to Cary, NC on Tuesday for the annual National High School Invitational, the nation’s premier high school tournament featuring 16 of the top teams in the country hosted by USA baseball. The Prep Baseball Report Louisiana scouting staff will make the trip up to North Carolina to see Curtis represent the state on the national stage. So be sure to follow during the week, as our scouting staff and PBR’s National Supervisor, Nathan Rode, will have complete coverage of the entire event.
Sulphur HS (19-4) and Barbe HS (19-4) round out the top five at No.’s 4 and 5 respectively. The Tors defeated the Bucs this week 1-0, with both starting pitchers tossing complete game no-hitters. Louisiana-Lafayette recruit, 2018 RHP Chance Stone (Sulphur HS, LA) continued his dominate senior year, as he struck out eight and walked none on 83 pitches in the complete game no-hitter to pick up the win. Louisiana State recruit, 2020 LHP/OF Brody Drost (Barbe HS, LA) got the tough loss on the nighgt, as he gave up one unearned run on no hits in seven innings of work, striking out eight and walking two on 87 pitches.
