PBR Louisiana State Games Preview: Uncommitted Prospects

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Our marquee event at the end of every summer is undoubtedly the Future Games, which features the top rising sophomores and juniors across the country.  At the state level, in Louisiana, our State Games event each fall has become the date to circle for prospects and college coaches alike.  The 2022 State Games are almost here, as we are just a couple of days away from kicking off the event this Sunday, September 25th, at Tulane University.  The event will feature some of the top prospects in Louisiana across all high school classes.  We'll get the day started off with a pro-style workout, where position players will take part in the 60 yard dash, a defensive workout, and batting practice.  The day will finish off with two separate games where players will get to showcase their skills in a game setting.  Today, we wanted to provide a preview of some of the uncommitted prospects that we're excited to see in each class.  Be sure to follow us on all of our social media platforms for complete coverage of this year's State Games!

UNCOMMITTED 2023 PROSPECTS

JC Vanek 1B / LHP / Barbe , LA / 2023

Vanek has been one of the Bucs most consistent hitters over the past two seasons, as a sophomore and junior, and led the Barbe team hitting back in 2021 on route to their 11th state title in school history.  Now a senior, Vanek comes into the State Games as one of the top uncommitted prospects in Louisiana's 2023 class

Steven Spalitta C / SS / Fontainebleau, LA / 2023

5'11" 180 lbs. frame with a physical lower half.  It's been a couple of years since we've had the chance to see Spalitta up close, so we're excited to see him this Sunday.  He's always been known for his left-handed stroke with pull-side power, and heads into Sunday as one of the state's top uncommitted catchers in the 2023 class

Hunter Azemar C / 3B / Southside, LA / 2023

Physical 6'0" 190 lbs. frame.  Azemar joints Spalitta on the list of top uncommitted catchers in the 2023 class heading into Sunday's State Games.  The Southside HS product boasts a powerful right-handed swing, as evidenced by his performance this past season for the Sharks.  Azemar earned our Week 1 High School Player of the Week honor this past spring, after belting 4 home runs in 13 at-bats with 6 runs batted in.

UNCOMMITTED 2024 PROSPECTS

Brooks Wright OF / OF / Catholic (BR), LA / 2024

The Bears seem to produce high end prospects at a rapid rate and Wright looks to be one of the next in line for Catholic.  He announced his presence at our Top Prospect Games this past summer by showcasing a smooth and repeatable left-handed stroke, as well as mega speed with a 6.49 in the 60, which earned him an invite to the Future Games.  Wright will be a guy circled on every college coaches radar this Sunday.

Cooper Winchester C / OF / St. Pauls, LA / 2024

Winchester has been a familiar name on the prep circuit in Louisiana's 2024 class and was a member of our Future Games team this past summer.  Defensively, he carries all the traits that a coach looks for in a future catcher, as he's an excellent receiver and blocker with a good arm and a quick transfer on throw downs.  The switch-hitter swung the bat extremely well at the Future Games this summer too, collecting multiple extra-base hits.

Lawson Bourgeois 3B / RHP / St. Amant, LA / 2024

Projectable, long, and athletic 6'1" 190 lbs. frame with more strength to come.  Dating back to the fall of last year, we've seen the St. Amant product's velocity and stuff tick up with each look, and we expect him to take another jump this Sunday at the State Games.

UNCOMMITTED 2025 PROSPECTS

Joshua Lim SS / RHP / Dunham, LA / 2025

Smaller in stature, but the impact that he makes on the field every time out is BIG.  A switch-hitter, Lim has a simple and repeatable swing from both sides that mirrors each other.  His approach is line drive, hard groundball, working the count, and using his speed to impact the game.  The Dunham product is also a sure handed and solid defender up the middle who can make every play.

Clayton Kimball OF / 3B / Central Private, LA / 2025

The physical 6'3" 195 lbs. OF was a member of our 2021 Junior Future Games team.  He made an impact this past spring for Central Private, seeing varsity playing time as a freshman.  The last time we saw Kimball, he showed some big time tools that included a 93 mph max exit velocity and a 7.24 in the 60.

Noah Lewis OF / 3B / Catholic High, LA / 2025

The 6'2" 175 lbs. Lewis joins Brooks Wright and a host of other Bear prospects that we're super excited to see this Sunday.  Playing this summer for the Knights Knation 15U American squad, Lewis put up some monster numbers hitting .441 with a .566 OBP to go along with a HR, 21 2B, 12 RBI, and 24 R.

UNCOMMITTED 2026 PROSPECTS

Dominic Pellegrin SS / 2B / Holy Cross, LA / 2026

It's tough to make see playing time as a freshman at the varsity level, let alone make an impact.  Last spring, Pellegrin not only played on the varsity for the Tigers, but made an impact as a then 8th grader.  He's another silky smooth infielder coming out of Holy Cross that we're pumped to see at Tulane on Sunday.

Braylen Montgomery OF / RHP / Walker, LA / 2026

Projectable and athletic 6'2" 175 lbs. frame with plenty of room to add strength.  The Walker HS product is a guy that we've heard a lot of good things about heading into this fall.  In the box, he starts off in an upright, balanced, and athletic stance and uses a toe-tap load and stride before delivering a direct path to the baseball with quick hands.  We expect him to make a splash this Sunday.

Colton Gregg SS / 3B / Barbe, LA / 2026

We had the chance to Gregg for the first time last fall at our Northern LA Fall ID at Louisiana Tech as an 8th grader.  What stood out the most was his defensive ability, as he displayed an advanced understanding of infield play, how to position himself to catch every good hop with soft hands and athletic actions.  Each time since that day, we've seen him continue to make physical jumps and gains, and we expect him to take another leap this Sunday.
