Louisiana Rankings Update - 2024 Class

OUISIANA - School is back in session across the state, which means the summer baseball season is officially over.  One of our goals for the summer was to make sure that our staff saw as many prospects as possible, especially any that we may have missed during the high school baseball season.  We completed four events this summer that were strategically held in different locations across the state (Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, and Sterlington), so that we would have an opportunity to reach players in every region.  Our summer ended with a bang, at the 2021 Future Games at the LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, GA, where Louisiana had a strong showing, finishing with a 2-1 record.  Today, we bring to you our updated rankings for the 2024 class, which has expanded to 85 players.  Below, we take a look at a few prospects who really increased their stock this summer.  Be sure to follow us on all of our social media platforms, over the coming days, as we will finish our rankings update with the 2022 class.

Micah Wascom RHP / 2B / Franklinton, LA / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 8 / POS: 3 Wascom is a prospect that has continually been talked about over the last few months since the high school season ended.  We had the opportunity to see the Franklinton HS product at the beginning of the summer in a bullpen session, where he sat in the low 80’s, running his FB up to 85 mph, and through the middle of July had a 4-0 record, 0.00 ERA, with 30 K’s and only 3 BB.  Wascom is the second ranked RHP in the state.

Grant Breaux RHP / SS / Catholic (BR), LA / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 5 / POS: 2 Lean, athletic, and wiry 6’2” 165 lbs. frame that really projects; Breaux was a member of our 2021 Future Games team this summer.  The Catholic BR product saw a nice velocity jump this summer, as he consistently pitched in the 84-88 mph range, topping out at 89 mph.  Soon after the Future Games, Breaux announched his commitment to Louisiana State University.  Again, as he continues to fill out his frame, we fully expect him to take more jumps and be a guy that is touching 90 mph come spring time.

Giancarlo Arencibia SS / RHP / Archbishop Rummel , LA / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 17 / POS: 6 Arencibia was another 2021 Future Gamer who showed well at the nation’s top event for uncommitted prospects and for his efforts, has moved inside the Top 20 in this rankings update.  Arencibia works quickly on the mound with a fluid and athletic delivery, pounding the zone with his 83-86 mph FB in all quadrants.  Offensively, the Rummel product shows a steady glove in the field and strikes the ball consistently with the barrel.

Brennan Eager LHP / 1B / West Monroe, LA / 2024 The southpaw stands in at 6’2” 185 lbs. with a durable frame and a starter profile.  Pitchability is the first thing that stood out about Eager during his 2021 Future Games outing.  Once he settled in after his first inning of work, the West Monroe product stayed down and away from hitters with his 79-82 mph FB inducing weak contact.  Eager also showed the ability to spin a big 68-70 mph, near “12-6” shaped CB and a SPL for strikes in any count.  With Lane Little heading to the University of Louisiana-Monroe this fall, we expect the Rebels to rely heavily on Eager for quality starts on the mound

Cooper Winchester C / OF / St. Pauls, LA / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 10 / POS: 1 Defense has always come first for Winchester, who has shown an advanced understanding of playing the catcher position from the first time that we had the opportunity to lay eyes on him.  This summer, the St. Paul’s backstop really increased his stock with his bat.  A switch hitter, with a simple and balanced swing from both sides of the plate; Winchester belted a ball to LF for a HR at our Top Prospect Games in June from right side and continued to hit all summer for the Knights Knational 15U squad.  He is now the #1 ranked catcher in the state rankings.
