Louisiana Knights Program Day: Quick Hits

Yesterday, Sunday, October 16th, Prep Baseball Report Louisiana hosted the Louisiana Knights Program Day at Tulane University. Several college coaches were on hand to see over 60 players in the Knights program go through a pro-style workout in the morning, followed by three games.

It was a long day, and there will be plenty more coverage in the days to come, but today we will take a look at few quick hits from the day.

+ There was quite a buzz surrounding 2018 OF Basiel Williams (Ponchatula HS) as he entered the day. Out of a prototypical, 6-foot-3, long, athletic frame, he began the day by running a 6.69 60-yard dash. Although it’s not premium arm strength, he certainly showed quality arm strength with solid carry on throws and a positional velocity of 86 mph. A legitimate switch hitter, he showed a simple, repeatable swing with a level path and strength in the swing.

+ Tulane recruit, 2018 1B Cade Beloso (John Curtis HS), had an outstanding day at the plate. He showed easy bat speed with a violent, but under control, approach and flashed extra-base hit ability to all fields. Beloso posted a 97 mph exit velocity and added a hard double in the RF corner, as well as another hard line-drive single, in game action.

+ 2018 RHP Dylan Coburn (Tioga HS) is one certainly to keep an eye on moving forward. A lean, projectable 6-foot-6 frame with plenty of room to add strength. Short, clean arm action with repeatable delivery and easy effort. Fastball sat 85-87 mph with quality tilt at times, and showed solid ability to spin a breaking ball with 10/4 shape at 72-73.

+ 2018 C/OF Chris Collet (Holy Cross HS) did not participate in the morning workout session, but he stood out in game action. A physical presence, Collet has bat speed, and strength from the right side. It is an aggressive approach, with present pull power and a level path. Collet is a quality athlete that moves around very well for his size.

+ 2018 SS Sean Cothern (Covington HS) has had a great fall thus far, and only improved his stock yesterday. With a simple, repeatable right-handed swing, he barreled two balls in game action, including a left-center gap splitting double. He has also shown to be a reliable defender with actions and consistent accurate throws across.

+ Future Games participant, 2019 1B Owen Hnatyshyn (St. Pauls HS) had perhaps the highlight of the day, as he sent a towering homer over the left-field net in game action. He also left the yard in batting practice and posted an 89 mph exit velocity.

+ 2020 OF Michael Latulas (Loreauville HS) is another to keep an eye on in the future. A balanced, simple setup from the left-side he showed advanced bat speed and strength that posted an 83 mph exit velocity. A strong, athletic build he also posted a 7.12 60-yard dash.

+ Unsigned 2017 INF Ryan Zimmerman (Fontainebleau HS) improved his stock dramatically on Sunday. A lean, athletic 6-foot-2 frame, he posted a 6.7 60-yard dash and flashed left-handed raw power posting a 90 mph exit velocity.

+ 2019 INF Peyton Lejune (Teurlings Catholic HS) showed quality actions with feel for infield play and strong, accurate throws across all day. A switch hitter, he showed a simple approach with level path, advanced bat speed and strength at contact.

+ Unsigned 2017 OF Xane Washington (Terrebonne HS) is one to certainly watch rise in Louisiana’s class of 2017 rankings update. A lean, athletic 6-foot-2 frame with fast-twitch actions, Washington posted a 6.8 60-yard dash. Another legitimate switch-hitting prospect, he showed a repeatable, level path with bat speed and feel to hit, posting an 87 mph exit velocity. He also showed quality arm strength with carry on throws and a positional velocity of 86 mph.

+ Tulane recruit, 2017 OF Stephen Sepcich (Jesuit HS) is a physically imposing 6-foot-2, 200-pound athlete and showed well on the day. Sepcich kicked off his day with a 6.87 60-yard dash, and showed an under control, yet violent round of batting practice, back-spinning balls fairly well. He also posted a 93 mph exit velocity.

+ 2019 RHP Max Padgett (Brother Martin HS) was certainly a bright spot as the day drew to a close. A projectable 6-foot-2 frame, he showed a clean, easy arm action and sat 80-84 mph with solid tilt to the fastball at times.

+ 2019 RHP Landon Rascoe (Hattiesburg(MS) HS) was another bright spot late in the day. A lean, athletic frame, he showed a clean, quick arm and sat 84-86 mph that easily projects to trend upward.
