Louisiana All-State Games - Quick Hits (Upperclass)

On Saturday, October 30, 2021, we ended our fall season with a bang, as some of the top prospects, across all classes, came to Alex Box Stadium at LSU, for our Louisiana All-State Games.  The event kicked off with a pro-style workout (60’s, Defense, Batting Practice) that all position players and two-way prospects participated in.  We finished the day off with two separate games.  Our Vice President of Scouting, Shooter Hunt, was on hand and was impressed by the amount of prospects in attendance and the overall talent level on display.  Below, we continue our post-event coverage with a look at some of the standout performers in the 2022 and 2023 classes.  Be sure to follow us on all social media platforms over the next couple of weeks, as we continue to recap the event! 

 

Position Players

-2022 OF Zeb Ruddell (Neville HS):  Athletic 6'0" 198 lbs. frame with plenty of room to continue to add strength.  The LSU Commit was named to the PBR Louisiana All-State Team in 2021 and showed why at Saturday's All-State Games.  Ruddell took the most impressive BP round of the day, launching several balls out of Alex Box Stadium, with his second swing of the day landing half way up the bleachers in RF.  During Game 1, he roped a ball to RF for a triple and showed off his above average speed rounding the bases.  With power and speed, we look for Ruddell to be a guy that gets some looks this spring for the 2022 MLB Amateur Draft. 

 

-2023 SS Alex Dupuy (Natchitoches Central HS):  Athletic and still developing 5'11" 160 lbs. frame; Dupuy showed up to the All-State Games more physical since our last look at him.  Took the cleanest infield round of the day.  Hands and feet were in total sync, catching the ball out front with soft hands and a clean transfer.  Displayed increased arm strength as well, recording a positional velocity of 82 mph.  The RHH hits from a slightly taller set-up in the box with a direct bat path and slightly uphill extension.  Dupuy should be on schools radars as we head into the spring, as he is one of the top uncommitted infielders in the state.

-2023 SS Nicolas Schwing (Mandeville HS):  Wiry and athletic 5'11" 155 lbs. frame that should continue to add more strength.  Schwing played with a lot of energy on Saturday and showed explosiveness in all facets of his game.  Moved well on the dirt with soft hands and athletic actions.  Throws were inaccurate at times, but he showed plenty of arm strength (86 mph) to stick on the left side of the infield.  At the plate, the RHH has good rhythm in his set-up and whips the barrel through the zone.  Recorded a max exit velocity of 85 mph.  Also, collected a single during gameplay through the left side.  Definitely a high follow this spring.

 

Pitchers

-2022 RHP Stewart Bonnecaze (Episopal BR HS):  Projectable 6'3" 185 lbs. frame; Bonnecaze is a guy we've seen several times since the summer and he continues to improve with each look.  The Meridian CC Commit worked 85-86 mph, topping out at 87 mph with his FB, that had downward tilt making it tough on opposing hitters.  Worked both sides of the plate and showed the ability to throw a 2 seamer in to RHH and away to LHH.  His 71-72 mph CB (2200-2300 RPM) was near "12-6" in shape and was landed for strikes.  

-2023 RHP Konnor Graham (Hammond HS):  Projectable and durable 6'5" 195 lbs. frame.  The Hammond HS product was a guy that we had heard good things about coming into Saturday and was one of the biggest winners of the day.  Graham has a short and quick arm action with an athletic delivery.  He lived down in the zone with his FB that sat 88-90 mph, topping out at 91 mph.  The secondary offerings were much improved from our last look.  Consistently landed his SL for strikes at 78-79 mph (2300 RPM), as well as his 81-83 mph CH.  Must follow for college coaches this spring.

 

-2023 RHP Hayden Harmon (Glenbrook HS):  Athletic 5'11" 180 lbs. frame with a sturdy build.  The Glenbrook HS product had a good summer and committed to Louisiana Tech University.  Worked 84-86 mph, topping out at 87 mph with his FB that had natural sinking action in to RHH and away from LHH.  His 71-72 mph CB was his best pitch that hate hard, late bite down in the zone and tunneled well with his FB.

 

-2023 RHP Hayden Robinson (Berwick HS):  Robinson was a member of our 2021 Future Games team and was one of the better arms on the squad.  On Saturday, he showed again why he's one of the most intriguing arms in the 2023 class.  Athletic mover down the mound with an up-tempo delivery.  Wasted no time attacking hitters with his 84-87 mph FB to both sides of the play, as well as up and down in the zone.  Showed the ability to spin an above average breaking ball at 71-72 mph and a 77-78 mph CH.  Definitely one to follow come this spring.

 

-2023 RHP Andrew Prejean (Holy Savior Menard HS):  Athletic 5'10" 165 lbs. frame with strength in his lower half.  This was our first look at Prejean and after Saturday, he will be a guy that we'll continue to follow closely.  A strike thrower; Prejean worked mostly 83-85 mph with his FB and showed the ability to pitch to both sides of the plate while mixing in a tight spinning 70-71 mph breaking ball.  His 77-78 mph CH was a solid third offering, giving him a true three pitch mix. 

 

Two-Way Players

-2022 SS/RHP Luke Hill (Episcopal BR HS):  Athletic and physical 6'1" 190 lbs. frame; the Tulane commit was one of the best overall prospects of the day.  Recorded a 6.83 in the 60 on a slower track.  Showed above average arm strength on the dirt by posting an 88 mph positional velocity.  Offensively, is where Hill really shined.  The RHH turns the barrel aggressively through the zone creating consistent hard contact.  Showed pull side power recording a max exit velocity of 96 mph.  That power translated to gameplay, as Hill belted a ball to deep CF for an extra base hit during Game 1.  Finished the day off by hopping on the mound running his FB up to 91 mph.  Hill will be a guy to see for MLB scouts come this spring.

 

-2023 SS/RHP Brandon Levy (Parkway HS):  Levy has been a guy that we've seen quite a bit over the last few years and he continued to impress on Saturday.  Showed above average arm strength from both the infield and the OF by recording positional velocities of 89 mph and 88 mph.  The University of Louisiana Commit continued to show a knack for finding the barrel, as he barreled a FB to deep RCF for a triple during Game 1.  On the mound, Levy was just as impressive, working 85-88 mph, topping out 89 mph, with natural cutting action to his FB, while mixing in a big "12-6" 70-72 mph CB.  

-2022 RHP/3B Blake Lobell (Springfield HS):  A member of our 2020 Future Games Team and a LSU-Eunice Commit; Lobell had himself a really good overall day on Saturday.  He flashed big time arm strength from the infield by recording an event best 94 mph positional velocity.  Turned in one of the best pitching performances of the day during Game 1.  Athletic delivery with a higher 3/4 arm slot; Lobell worked 85-88 mph, topping out at 89 mph with his FB, while locating it consistently down in the zone.  His 75-76 mph CB was the separator that above average spin at 2500-2600 RPM's.  

-2023 OF/LHP Maddox Mandino (Glenbrook HS):  The University of Louisiana Commit packs a lot of punch in his 5'9" 150 lbs. frame.  On a slow track, Mandino posted a 6.80 in the 60.  He worked through the middle of the field in a quality BP round, showing quick hands with a flat path and level extension through the baseball.  He struggled with control on the mound, but showed his arm talent by running his FB up to 89 mph on the mound, while mixing in a 74-77 mph CB that reached 2600 RPM's. 

 

-2023 LHP/OF Jake Brown (Sulphur HS):  A top 100 player in the 2023 national rankings; Brown had was unable to pitch last spring and this summer, so we were super eager to see him jump on the mound again and he did not disappoint.  Athletic mover down the hill; the LSU Commit showed easy velocity and the ability to locate his 86-88 mph FB to all quadrants.  He also showed two quality off speed offerings in his 67-72 mph breaking ball that had good shape and spin and was landed for strikes consistently, as well as his 77-78 mph CH.  Offensively, he showed the same flat swing and ability to barrel the ball to the opposite field that kept him in the two hole for Sulphur HS last spring.
