Diamond Notes (Week 9)

Our Week 9 Edition of Diamond Notes is here, as we highlight some of the top performances, from across the state in Week 8 (04/18/22-04/24/22), as well as our Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week. Now that the playoffs are here, we will not be accepting submissions for our Player & Pitcher of the Week. We are fired up for what's in store for the playoffs, as we move into Round 2!
Player of the Week
Cameron Andrus / Carencro, LA / 2022Carencro went 3-1 in the final week of the regular season, with their only loss being a 1-0 game against the top ranked Class 4A team in North Vermillion. Andrus led the Bears offensive attack by collecting six hits in thirteen at-bats (.462 AVG), that included one double, one homerun, eleven runs batted in, and four stolen bases. In a thrilling 14-13 win against Erath, Andrus hit a walk-off double to seal the win for the Bears. |
Pitcher of the Week
Jace Duhon RHP / 3B / South Beauregard, LA / 2024Duhon was an interesting 6'2" pitching prospect at our Southwest Louisiana Preseason ID in January, and the uncommitted right-handed pitcher has enjoyed a successful sophomore campaign for the Golden Knights. Last week, Duhon threw a complete game no-hitter, with one walk and eight strikeouts, against Hornbeck, as South Beauregard won 10-0. For the year, Duhon has compiled a 6-3 record with one save and has allowed only fifteen earned runs across sixty seven innings pitched, to go along with fifty three strikeouts. |

Layton Pittman RHP / 1B / St. Thomas Aquinas, LA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 129 / POS: 28
Pittman went 1-0 in 2 appearances for the Falcons last week, as the team went 4-0 overall on the week. In nine innings pitched, he allowed only four hits with four walks and eleven strikeouts. He also helped his own cause, offensively, by recording five hits in thirteen at-bats (.385 AVG), that included two doubles and four runs batted in. |
Jordan Trapani C / 3B / St. Thomas Aquinas, LA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 96 / POS: 14
The Nicholls State signee has been a familiar name in our Diamond Notes section this season and he enjoyed another monster week at the plate. Trapani collected six hits in fourteen at-bats (.429 AVG) with three homeruns, two doubles, and eight runs batted in. For the regular season, he finished with a .489 AVG, 6 HR, 14 2B, 2 3B, 49 RBI, 18 BB, and struck out only six times. |
Caleb Johnson / East Beauregard, LA / 2024The sophomore two-way prospect had a stellar week, both offensively and on the mound. He earned a save after tossing one inning on twenty three pitches with three strikeouts. At the plate, Johnson was near perfect last week, as he collected eleven hits in twelve at-bats (.917 AVG) with two homeruns, three doubles, three triples, five stolen bases, and ten runs scored. |
Coy Broussard / Erath, LA / 2022Broussard had a monster week at the plate for the Bobcats, as they claimed their district championship. In thirteen at-bats, he recorded ten hits, that included two doubles and two triples with four runs batted in and ten runs scored. |
Jackson Tarver 3B / RHP / Parkview Baptist, LA / 2022Tarver had a nice week at the plate for the Eagles, as they won their district championship under first year Head Coach Phillip Hawke. In nine at-bats, Tarver collected six hits (.667 AVG) with five runs batted in. |
Caleb Stelly OF / 3B / Parkview Baptist, LA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 8 / POS: 2
A 2020 Future Games participant and University of Louisiana signee; Stelly has had a really good senior campaign that has increased his stock as a potential draft prospect this summer. He recorded six hits in twelve at-bats (.500 AVG) with seven runs batted in. |
David Favrot 2B / RHP / CE Byrd , LA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 109 / POS: 5
The senior middle infield prospect out of C.E. Byrd HS enjoyed another good week at the plate for the Yellow Jackets. Favrot collected nine hits in eighteen at-bats (.500 AVG), that included one homerun, three doubles, and seven runs batted in. |
