Class Of 2018 Rankings Updated

As we find ourselves nearing the end of the summer circuit, it is time for us to update our 2018 rankings.

It’s been quite some time since the last Class of 2018 rankings update. The winter, spring, and early summer months, both on the state and national levels, have shed more light on this talented and deep 2018 class. There has been plenty of shakeup throughout the list, which has now been expanded to 60 players.

Although this should be expected to change very soon, only one prospect in the rankings has made a commitment. LSU recruit, Landon Marceaux (Destrehan HS), retains his number one ranking. Marceaux was nothing short of dominate this spring, which included a 9-inning playoff performance, where he held his 88-92 mph velocity for the entirety of the contest.

Logan Stevens (Northlake Christian HS), CJ Willis (Ruston HS) and Zane Zeppuhar (St. Amant HS) are all advanced left-handed hitters and come in at numbers 2, 3 and 4 respectively, after having outstanding summers on the national circuit. Stevens was locked in at the Under Armour Classic in mid-June, where he consistently made hard contact, including a big home run for the Louisiana Knights. Zeppuhar has been a staple for Marucci Elite 16U Black, and was a standout at the Top Prospect Games, which saw him hit a home run off the scoreboard against live pitching.

Will Ripoll and Cade Beloso are two prospects that were displaced to Texas by Hurricane Katrina over 10 years ago, and have been considering moving back to Louisiana for some time. Although it is unclear where they will attend school, both expect to be in the state of Louisiana next season. Ripoll is a RHP/SS that was outstanding at the Under Armour Classic, where he sat 86-89 mph with a sharp breaking ball, and showed advanced command. Beloso shows a powerful left-handed bat with advanced feel to hit, and was a standout during the Marucci Classic in early June.

6-foot-5 right-handed pitcher, Dylan Coburn (Tioga HS), cracks the top ten after an impressive showing at the WWBA in Atlanta where he showed a mid to upper-80s fastball, and advanced feel to pitch.

Three standouts from the Top Prospect Games round out the top ten in: Gavin Dugas (Houma Christian HS), Chance Stone (Sulphur HS), and Jordin LaBruzza (John Curtis HS). Dugas shows advanced feel to hit with strength at contact and posted a 6.68 60 yard dash. Stone is a potential two-way prospect that hits from left-side with a simple, strong, compact path and will run his fastball up to 86 mph with a quality feel for spin. LaBruzza is a polished defender with actions, feel for infield play, as well as a quality right-handed hitter that flashes occasional power.
