Our annual winter Unsigned Senior Showcase took place in December at Legends Sports Academy and is typically the case, produced several solid performances from some of the top uncommitted seniors in the state. All of the players below remain uncommitted with the exception of Nate Beavers who committed to Lincoln Trail following the event.
The following is an in-depth look at the pitchers who participated in the event.
Results for all players were previously posted. CLICK HERE to view those results.
Seth Johnson, OF/RHP, Franklin-Simpson HS, 2016
6-foot-1, 160-pound RHP continues to show a steady increase in velocity and is one of the top uncommitted arms in the state. Johnson works though a high-3/4 slot with regular effort, good tempo in delivery, loose and quick arm, fastball sat 85-87 mph touching 88 with good arm-side run and sink, curveball is sharp with tight spin and 11/5 action at 75-77 mph, throws 77-80 mph changeup with good arm speed but tends to bury it, intriguing prospect on the mound with very good upside and likely more velocity to come.
Zac Conner, RHP, (2015 HS grad)
6-foot-5, 190-pound RHP attended the event looking to transfer at Christmas Break from a junior college. Conner woks through a high-3/4 slot with long and loose arm action, has a great pitcher’s frame, fastball sat 83-86 mph, showed a good curveball at 67-70 mph with 11/5 action and the ability to throw it for strikes, shows feel for 72-75 mph changeup and also throws an effective splitter at 73-74 mph with late tumbling action.
Nate Beavers, RHP, Woodford County HS, 2016
6-foot-2, 175-pound RHP with frame that projects well, uses shorter arm action through a ¾ to high-3/4 arm slot, quick arm, regular effort in delivery, has shown a recent increase in velocity, fastball sat 83-85 mph with occasional arm-side run, four-seam fastball showed occasional cutting action, shows good feel for 71-74 mph curveball with sharp 11/5 action and solid depth, throws a very good changeup at 75-76 mph with good arm action and solid fading action, has ability to throw three pitches for strikes. Beavers committed to Lincoln Trail following the event.
Austin Oulds, OF/RHP, Chatham Kent Secondary (ON), 2016
5-foot-10, 170-pound RHP uses long/loose arm action through a 3/4 slot with regular effort, fastball sat 81-84 mph touching 85, lower end of fastball range from the stretch, tended to bury 71-73 mph curveball that showed sharp 11/5 action, changeup proved to be best secondary pitch at 74-75 mph with good sink and fade and thrown with good arm action.
Hunter Turner, RHP, Cooper HS, 2016
6-foot, 217-pound RHP uses long arm action and works through a high-3/4 arm slot, delivery requires minimal effort, consistently throws strikes with all pitches, fastball sat mostly 79-81 mph but touched 84 on one occasion, throws a solid curveball at 68-71 mph with sharp 11/5 action, good feel for 73-75 mph changeup thrown with good arm speed, also throws a 72 mph splitter with some late tumbling action and some deception off fastball.
Chandler Harnage, RHP, South Warren HS, 2016
5-foot-11, 175-pound RHP impressed with his ability to fill up the strike zone with all pitches, works through a high-3/4 to over the top arm slot with regular effort in delivery, fastball sat 79-81 mph touching 82 on one occasion, curveball is a solid pitch at 67-70 mph with varying 11/5 and 12/6 action and solid depth, throws an effective 73-75 mph changeup with late fade. Harnage has consistently shown the ability to throw strikes with all pitches.
Chad Williams, LHP, McCracken County HS, 2016
5-foot-11, 185 pound LHP with strong frame, works through an over-the-top arm slot with some effort, lands open on occasion, fastball sat 78-79 mph touching 80 on one occasion with occasional cutting action, locates his 68-70 mph curveball down in the zone with short 12/6 action, throws 71-73 mph changeup with good arm speed and deception that is mostly straight.
Dustin Cecil, RHP, South Oldham HS, 2016
6-foot, 175-pound RHP uses long arm action and works through a ¾ to at times high-3/4 arm slot, delivery requires normal effort, fastball shows occasional arm-side run at 78-80 mph touching 81 on one occasion, curveball displays good depth and 11/5 action when he stays on top of it at 67-71 mph, good arm action on 71-73 mph changeup that varied between sink and fade and cutting action (can stay behind the pitch more consistently).
Blake Redmon, 2B/RHP, Franklin County HS, 2016
5-foot-9, 165-pound RHP has shown more velocity at previous events, interesting sidearm delivery, fastball sat 69-70 mph with significant arm-side run and sink, shows feel for a sweeping 58-59 mph curveball that he does a good job of staying on top of from the sidearm slot, changeup has potential at 62-65 mph and mimics fastball action though he struggled to locate it for strikes on this occasion (have seen it much better at previous events). Would expect to see Redmon’s velocity back up to where we have seen it previously as we get closer to the season.
Briley Seiter, RHP, Bellevue HS, 2016
5-foot-7, 148-pound RHP uses shorter arm action and works through a high-3/4 arm slot with normal effort, consistently throws strikes with all three pitches, fastball shows occasional arm-side run at 73-76 mph, throws a solid curveball at 62-65 mph with 11/5 action and good depth, changeup is a solid pitch thrown with good arm action at 65-69 mph, does a good job staying behind the changeup producing good sink and fading action. Seiter lacks some velocity but shows very good pitchability.
