The annual Preseason All-State Showcase at Champions Baseball Academy in Nicholasville included more than 120 players from all parts of the state looking to showcase their abilities prior to the high school season. In what is the premier preseason scouting event in the state, there were many standout performances which we will feature over the next week.

The following is a look at the uncommitted seniors who took the mound. Note that LHP Chase Thomas committed to Lincoln Memorial University following the event.

Chase Thomas, LHP, Campbellsville, 2016
Max FB: 85, FB: 82-84, CB: 70-73, CH: 75-77,
6-foot-1, 185-pound LHP committed to Lincoln Memorial University following the event. Works through a ¾ slot with regular effort, arm shows quickness, fastball has good arm-side run especially the two-seamer, located some curveballs in the strike zone and it showed sharp 1/7 action when he gets over front side, showed a very good changeup with excellent sink and fade in the strike zone and good deception off the fastball.

Will Seewer, RHP, Male, 2016
Max FB: 86, FB: 85-86, CB: 73-75, CH: 74-77,
6-foot, 160-pound RHP showed good velocity, works through a high-3/4 slot with a quick arm, some effort in delivery, fastball showed some arm-side run, throws a hard curveball with sharp 11/5 action, located the curveball down in the zone and could be a swing-and-miss type pitch at the next level, good feel for changeup thrown with good arm action and good velocity difference off fastball. Seewer will be a solid pickup this spring for a college program.

Marcus Johnson, OF/LHP, Bryan Station, 2016
Max FB: 83, FB: 81-83, CB: 68-71, CH: 78-79,
6-foot, 205-pound LHP works through a high-3/4 slot with minimal effort in delivery, showed ability to throw all pitches for strikes, fastball shows occasional arm-side run, showed feel for curveball especially from the stretch, curveball shows gradual 1/7 action, changeup is straight and could use slightly more velocity difference to be most effective. Johnson will be a solid lefty addition to a college pitching staff.

Andy Highbaugh, SS/RHP, Barren County, 2016
Max FB: 83, FB: 81-82, CB: 62-67, CH: 73-74,
5-foot-11, 205-pound RHP, strong lower half, uses long arm action through a ¾ slot with minimal effort, throws fastball for strikes with some arm-side run, curveball missed up from the windup but showed much better feel from the stretch with 11/5 action, shows feel for changeup with good sinking action and velocity difference off the fastball.

Connor Hess, RHP, Eastern, 2016
Max FB: 81, FB: 78-80, CB: 62-66, CH: 72-74,
6-foot-1, 155-pound RHP, lanky build with projection, long and loose arm action, ¾ slot, throws the fastball for strikes with some late sink, missed up and arm side at times with his curveball that showed gradual 11/5 action, throws a solid changeup with good arm action that shows the same sinking action of his fastball. Hess’ arm action and projectable build will likely lead to additional velocity in the near future.

Johnathan Morris, RHP/OF, Henry Clay, 2016
Max FB: 76, FB: 74-76, CB: 67-69, CH: 72-75,
6-foot-3, 180-pound RHP with projectable frame, uses a slinging-type arm action through a ¾ slot, regular effort in delivery, occasional arm-side run and sink on fastball, gets around curveball at times leading to inconsistent command and action but did throw a few with sharper 11/5 shape, throws changeup with good arm action and shows good feel for it but will be more effective with bigger velocity difference off fastball.
