Prep Baseball Report - Missouri/Kansas held the Unsigned Prospect Showcase at Hoover Field in Wichita, Kansas on Saturday, November 4.  Nearly 60 players in the 2018 and 2019 classes participated from Missouri and Kansas.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running time, throwing velocities and videos.  Today, we will break down the catchers from the event, and in the days to come we will break down the event position-by-position. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

CATCHERS

Cole Conner C / 3B / Mill Valley , KS / 2019

Conner is a physical 6-foot 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.66 60 and a 4.50 home to first.  He has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, weight shits to back side to load, slight separation in hands and stride, fast bat speed, level through he zone, middle to pull side contact, loud contact to pull side.  Behind the plate, pop times 2.01 to 2.21-seconds, 73 mph positional velocity, over the top release, balanced set up in feet, fluid transfer with quick jab step in right foot, aggressive, mostly accurate throws.

Deriq Doty RHP / C / Maize , KS / 2019

Doty is an athletic and strong 6-foot-3 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.50 60 and a 4.52 home to first.  He has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, smooth pre-swing rhythm, quiet load, minimal stride, swing produced solid consistent contact gap to gap, hands generate quick bat whip.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.10 and 2.36-seconds, 73 mph positional velocity, slightly staggered set up in feet, throws from a high three quarters arm slot, flexible and sits low, fluid transfer with on time with feet to throw, treats momentum to throw, mostly accurate throws flashing carry.

Gage Kennedy OF / C / Maize , KS / 2018

Kennedy is a lean 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed catcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.50 60 and a 4.51 home to first.  At the plate, starts slightly open, no wasted movement in load, quiet in line stride, hands manage the bat, loose whip with feel for barrel, gap to gap approach, body stays under control during swing.  Behind the plate, pop times 2.17 to 2.30-seconds, 72 mph positional velocity, thin and low stance, short and loose over the top arm slot,  clean transfer with fluid footwork, soft hands, accurate throws to the bag. 

Cooper Morrison C / RHP / Kearney, MO / 2018

Morrison is an athletically built 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.17 60 and a 4.41 home to first.  He has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts with an open and thin stance, minimal load, short stride, loose and quick hands, flashed power to pull side, middle to pull side contact.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.18 and 2.37-seconds, 68 mph positional velocity, sits low, short first step, over the to release, quick catch and throw, feet and hands work together, loose arm action, accurate throws to the bag.

Tyler Perry OF / C / Lees Summit High School, MO / 2019

Perry is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.40 60 and has a 4.37 home to first. He has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, rocking type load into back side, quiet hands, short stride, slightly closed, swing path works down and through contact, mostly middle of the cage contact.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.16 and 2.41-seconds, 68 mph positional velocity, slightly staggered set up, sits high, three quarters release, clean transfer with fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws.

Corey Sampaio C / C / Fordland, MO / 2018

Sampiao is a strong and durable 6-foot-2 200-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.28 60 and a 4.52 home to first.  He has an 87 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, minimal load, short in line stride, repeatable, body stays under control during swing, quick and strong hands, occasional power to the pull side, middle to pull approach.  Behind the plate, thin set up, sits low, clean exchange, explosive off back side, momentum to throw, pop times 1.99 to 2.23-seconds, 74 mph positional velocity, mostly accurate throws.

Mickey Simpson C / 3B / Grain Valley , MO / 2019

Simpson is an athletically built 5-foot-10 150-pound switch-hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.80 60, 4.69 home to first from the right side and a 4.49 from the left side.  He has an 83 mph exit velocity from both sides. At the plate, similar swing mechanics from both sides, strides slightly closed on left side, in line stride on right side, quiet hands with smooth lower half load, level path, hands generate bat whip, stays on ball after contact, gap to gap approach.  Behind the plate, 2.10 to 2.30-seconds, 74 mph positional velocity, wide set up in base, aggressive first step creating momentum, over the top release, fluid transfer on time with feet, accurate throws to the bag.

Andrew Snyder C / 3B / CBC , MO / 2019

Snyder is an 6-foot 206-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.83 60 and a 4.58 home to first.  He has an 87 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts with a tall and open stance, rhythm in hands, in line stride, aggressive swing with quick bat speed, swings with intent, middle to pull side power.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.13 and 2.24-seconds, 72 mph positional velocity, quick catch and throw, aggressive and quick actions, clean exchange, high three quarters release, mostly accurate throws.

Cole Summers C / 1B / Shawnee Mission West, KS / 2018

Summers is a strong 6-foot 205-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.20 60 and a 4.38 home to first.  He has a 93 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, controlled and smooth load against back leg, accelerated swing, loud contact to pull side, middle to pull approach, quick bat speed, path works down to contact, aggressive.  Behind the plate, 2.05 to 2.14 pop times, 75 mph positional velocity, balanced set up in feet, quick catch and throw, made clean exchange, aggressive first step, feet create momentum to throw, over the top release, accurate throws to the bag, some with carry.

Hayden Thornton C / OF / Staley , MO / 2019

Thornton is a 5-foot-10 185-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.29 60 and a 4.45 home to first. He has an 88 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, controlled load with rhythm in hands, bring feet together with aggressive in line stride, loose and quick hands, slight natural lift on the swing path, gap to gap contact.  Behind the plate, 1.98 to 2.08 pop times, 75 mph positional velocity, quick actions, soft hands with clean change, feet create aggressive momentum to throw, attacks ball to block, mostly accurate throws.

Cooper Turpin C / OF / Salina Sacred Heart, KS / 2018

Turpin is a lean and projectable 6-foot-1 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 7.35 60 and a 4.26 home to first.  He has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a wide stance, short in line stride, loose hands, fast bat speed, swing produced consistent solid contact gap to gap, pull side power, level bat path.  Behind the plate, 1.98 to 2.07-pop times, 80 mph positional velocity, clean and quick actions, soft hands, aggressive feet, over the top release, wide set up in base, mostly accurate throws to the bag.
