The Barn Scout Day: Catchers Analysis

Prep Baseball Report-Kansas held the The Barn Scout Day at The Barn Indoor Facility on January 26. Over forty-five players attended in the 2020 to 2024 classes
Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance.
Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on ScoutPlus.

Catchers
Torin Cavanaugh RHP / C / Chapman, KS / 2022Cavanaugh is a lean 6-foot-2 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2022 class. He ran a 4.34 home to first and had a 66 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts with open stance, minimal load, in line stride, quick hands, hits with leverage in lower half, high finish in hands, middle to pull side line drives, has feel for barrel. Behind the plate, 74 mph positional velocity, thin set up in lower half, short jab step with right foot, over the top arm slot, clean transfer. |
Rockleigh Dawson C / 1B / St Pius X, TX / 2020Dawson is a well-built 6-foot 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Texas’ 2020 class. He ran a 4.42 home to first and has a 78 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts with an open stance, minimal load with no wasted movement, hits against a firm front side, level path with some length, swing produced mostly middle to pull side line drives. Behind the plate, 76 mph positional velocity, sits low in a slightly staggered position, clean and quick transfer, over the top release, feet are on time with exchange and release, ball has carry. |
Owen Goode C / 1B / Manhattan, KS / 2024Goode is a 5-foot-8 130-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2024 class. He ran a 5.22 home to first and has a 67 mph exit velocity.
