Inside the 2020 Rankings: Uncommitted Right-Handed Pitchers

After a long summer and fall of tournaments and showcases, here is an inside look at Kansas' 2020 Rankings. Today, we take a look at available right-handed pitchers in the 2020 class from around the Sunflower State. Players are listed in alphabetical order.
2020 RIGHT HANDED PITCHERS
Blake Andersen RHP / 1B / Olathe East, KS / 2020Rankings StateRank: 18 / POS: 6
Andersen is a long legged 6-foot-2 173-pound right-handed hitting outfielder, right-handed pitcher and first baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 7.50 60 and a 4.81 home to first. He has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts open, smooth rhythm in load, slight hand load, fast bat and aggressive bat speed, gap to gap contact, occasional pull side power, solid consistent contact during batting batting practice, loose hands, ripled to right center in game action. In the outfield, 81 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm slot, long arm circle, momentum through the catch and after the throw, fluid transfer, mostly accurate throws. At first base, 77 mph positional velocity, soft hands, high three quarter arm slot, showed range the ball, fluid transfer, mostly accurate throws. Harrick is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting first baseman and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 7.90 60 and a 4.66 home to first. He has an 84 mph exit velocity. Jacobs is a big bodied with a lean frame at 6-foot-6, 190-pounds and is a right-handed hitting outfielder and right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 7.94 60 and posted an exit velocity of 84 mph. During hitting evaluations, Jacobs starts with a wider base, minimal load, in line stride, leverages up front side with his long levers, remains balanced throughout swing, showed contact to his pull side during bp round. Defensively, aggressive to the baseball, strong arm with carry, over the top release, positional velo of 84 mph (one of the tops at the event), mostly accurate throws. One the mound, Jacobs establishes a presence with his frame, smooth delivery, downhill tilt, arms and legs coming at the hitter, accelerates down the mound, long arm action, high three-quarter release, fastball sat 80-82 mph, tops at 83 mph, commands it well at the bottom of the zone, late arm side run, curveball is 58-61 mph, sharp at times, 11-to-5 shape, split finger is 63-66 mph, thrown for strikes, downward tumbling action. |
Alex Johnson RHP / OF / Spring Hill, KS / 2020Rankings StateRank: 75 / POS: 14
Johnson is a 6-foot-4 160-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class. Johnson has an over the top release, throws with some effort, long limbs, hides the ball well, throws downhill, fastball at 78-82 mph, change up flashes sink at 70-73 mph, fastball arm speed, breaking ball has 11-to-5 action, 70-73 mph, some with sharp break. |
Cole Thornton RHP / 1B / Wichita Collegiate , KS / 2020Rankings StateRank: 80 / POS: 16
Thornton has a large and projectable frame at 6-foot-9, 235-pounds, right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class from Wichita Collegiate HS. Thornton works a slower and methodical tempo, solid delivery and repeats, good direction, downhill tilt, over the top release, clean arm action. Fastball is 77-80 mph, thrown for strikes, good angle coming from his hand, occasional run to arm side, changeup is 63-67 mph, near fastball arm speed, occasional fade action, curveball is 59-60 mph. |

Torkelson has a lean frame and athletic build at 6-foot-1, 170-pounds and is a right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class. Torkelson has a projectable frame, clean arm action, over the top release, simple and repeatable delivery, pitches with some rhythm, accelerates down the mound. Fastball is a heavy 83-84 mph with some slight run. Changeup is 74-75 mph, located at the bottom of the zone, near fastball arm speed. Curveball has a chance to be a plus pitch, 11-to-5 shape, late bite, thrown for strikes. |
Brance Ware RHP / Jayhawk-Linn, KS / 2020Rankings StateRank: 33 / POS: 9
Ware has a projectible frame at 6-fot-1, 147 pounds and is a right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class from Jayhawk-Linn HS. Ware has a simple delivery with clean and easy arm action, high ¾ arm lost, strides slightly across his body and accelerates down the mound. Ware throws his fastball for a high percentage of strikes at 77-79 mph, changeup shows arm side run at 68-71 mph and curveball has 11-to-5 shape and is 61-64 mph. |
