Prep Baseball Report-Kansas/Missouri held the Class of 2018 Games on June 27 at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. Over 50 players took part in the event from around region.Player profiles have been updated with video, running times, throwing velocities and profile picture. In the days to come, we will break down the event position-by-position. Today, we will take a look at the infielders from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order.

Infielders
Brayden Carr SS / Mill Valley, KS / 2018Carr is a 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed hitting infielder in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran 7.46 laser timed 60 and a 4.37 home-to-first. Carr’s exit velocity is 82 mph, starts with an athletic open stance, simple load, level bat path through the hitting zone and gets extension through contact. Defensively, Carr showed his athleticism with good range to both his glove and arm side, smooth hands, fluid footwork, high three quarters release, 78 mph positional velo, mostly accurate throws. |
Alexander Lovin SS / Hickman , MO / 2018Lovin is a 5-foot-11 153-pound right-handed hitting infielder in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 7.35 laser timed 60 and 4.32 home-to-first. At the plate, Lovin showed an exit velo of 87 mph, starts with an open stance, even stride, hands explode to the baseball and showed pop to his pull side during bp. During game action he singled and doubled to left field. Defensively, Lovin showed range to both glove and arm sides, quick release, 80 mph positional velo and very accurate throws. |
Nicholas Chomyak 3B / Shawnee Mission Northwest, KS / 2018Chomyak is a 5-foot-10 175 pound right-handed hitting infielder, outfielder and RHP in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran 7.55 laser timed 60 and a 4.76 home-to-first. His exit velo is 85 mph. At the plate, Chomyak includes a leg lift with his load, even stride, level bat path and controls his body throughout his swing. On the infield, positional velo is 81 mph with accurate throws, moved well side to side and has long arm action. In the outfield, he showed good footwork, positional velo of 83 and fairly accurate throws. On the mound, Chomyak uses an OT slot to throw fastballs that have the ability to run and cut, velo range was between 79-82, curveball showed sharp 12-to-6 action, 73-77 mph and thrown with near fastball arm speed. Chomyak utilizes a max effort delivery and accelerates down the mound with an aggressive lower half. |
Kurt Golubski 3B / Paola , KS / 2018Golubski is 6-foot-2 179-pound left-handed hitting corner infielder in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 7.33 laser timed 60, 4.72 home-to-first and put up an exit velo of 85 mph. At the plate, Golubski uses a toe tap for timing, smooth stroke, even stride, good extension through contact and slightly uphill bat path. During game action he doubled down the right field line. Defensively on the infield, Golubski shows a three quarters slot, long arm action, range to both glove and arm sides, accurate throws and 75 mph positional velo. |
Trent (TJ) Ladner SS / Manhattan , KS / 2018Ladner has slender yet projectable frame at 6-foot-3 180 pounds and is a right-handed hitting infielder in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 7.62 laser timed 60 and a 4.83 home-to-first and showed an exit velo of 75 mph. At the plate, Ladner has an athletic base, open stance, even stride, level bat path and hit an opposite field single in game action. Defensively, Ladner displayed range to both glove and arm sides, long arm action, high three quarters slot, positional velo of 76 mph and accurate throws across the infield. |
Joshua Mitchell SS / Shawnee Mission Northwest, KS / 2018Mitchell is an athletic 6-foot 175-pound infielder and RHP in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 7.41 laser timed 60 and 4.34 home-to-first. Exit velo was recorded at 97 mph, which was the top for the event. At the plate, Mitchell showed a simple and repeatable swing during batting practice with bat speed/pop and a well struck line out to CF during game action. On the infield, Mitchell displayed his athleticism with good actions, topping at 83 mph and with accurate throws. In the outfield, he was aggressive to the ball, show off a strong off topping at 86 mph with fairly accurate throws. On the mound, Mitchell repeats his delivery with a quicker tempo and loose arm. He is consistently around the strike zone with a fastball that runs to his arm side, tops at 86 mph and works between 82-85 mph. He also had good feel for his curveball between 70-74 with 11-to-5 action with late bite. |
Brody Hanna 2B / Maize South, KS / 2018Hanna is an athletic 5-foot-9 155-pound right-handed hitting infielder in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 7.11 laser timed 60 and a 4.33 home-to-first. Hanna showed an exit velo of 84 mph. At the plate, Hanna has quick hands, shorter stride, smooth and balanced swing, gap-to-gap approach. During game action he singled to the opposite field and doubled in the left center gap. Defensively, Hanna flashed a good glove, fluid footwork, moved well, arm works, high three quarters slot, 80 mph positional velo and accurate throws. |
Brayden Paxton 1B / Derby, KS / 2018Paxton is a 6-foot-3 202 pound left-handed hitting first baseman and LHP in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 7.33 laser timed 60 and a 4.52 home-to-first. At the plate, Paxton displayed a 84 mph exit velo, compact stroke, athletic stance, smooth and repeatable swing, quiet hands while showing plate discipline in game action. Defensively at first base, he showed good range, accurate throws and a positional velo of 79 mphl. On the mound, Paxton shows a choppy but repeatable delivery, OT arm slot and good direction down the mound. His fastball was well located to both sides of the plate between 71-74 mph. Paxton’s curveball was 62-63 mph with gradual 12-to-6 action. |
Jacob Peterson 3B / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2018Peterson is a 6-foot-2 180-pound right-handed hitting middle infielder and RHP in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 7.34 laser timed 60 and a 4.69 home-to-first. Peterson’s exit velo was 86 mph. At the plate, he displays an open but athletic stance, simple load with hands, level bat path and a good eye for the strike zone during game action. During defensive evaluation, Peterson showed smooth actions, clean arm action, positional velo of 73 mph and very accurate throws. On the mound, Peterson is strike thrower with a steady mix of fastball between 74-77 mph and curveball between 65-66 mph. He locates the fastball to both sides of the plate which showed occasional run while the curveball showed late 12-to-6 action. Peterson has short, quick arm action, high ¾ release and accelerates down the mound. |
Nathan Hungate RHP / Kapaun Mt. Carmel, KS / 2018Hungate has a projectable frame at 6-foot-1 and 165-pounds and is a RHP and first baseman in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 7.36 laser timed 60 and 4.44 home-to-first. His exit velo was 83 mph. At the plate, Hungate shows a easy and effortless swing, slightly open stance, quiet hands and singled in game action. At first base, he showed good actions with long arm arm action, positional velo of 79 mph with mostly accurate throws. On the mound, Hungate’s athletic build allows for a smooth and repeatable delivery, works consistently downhill and accelerates through his finish. He shows loose, clean arm action with a high ¾ release. Hungate is a strike thrower as he located his fastball to both sides of the plate between 80-82 mph with slight run and his curveball showed late bite, 11-to-5 action and with velo between 66-68 mph. |
Colten Richardson C / Valley Center , KS / 2018Richardson is a 5-foot-9 145-pound right-handed hitting catcher and middle infielder in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 7.46 laser timed 60 and a 4.71 home-to-first. Richardson’s exit velo was 81 mph, which is an improvement from last year’s event. During batting practice, Richardson displayed pop to all fields with a smooth stroke, a minimal load, loose/quiet hands that are quick to the baseball. Defensively behind the plate Richardson’s pop times were recorded between 1.99 and 2.04 seconds, 73 mph positional velocity, quick transfers, fluid footwork and very accurate throws. On the infield, he displayed solid footwork, smooth actions, a positional velocity of 78 mph with very accurate throws. |
Matthew Schrick OF / Atchison , KS / 2018Schrick is a 5-foot-11 178-pound right-handed hitting infielder and outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 7.12 laser timed 60 and a 4.69 home-to-first. At the plate, Schrick has an open stance, smooth stroke, quick hands, level bat path and showed good pop to both the middle and opposite fields. In the outfield, Schrick showed off a strong arm, 84 mph positional velo, mostly accurate throws, fluid footwork. On the infield, he showed quick feet, good range to both glove and arm sides, long arm action, high three quarters release, 81 mph positional velo with mostly accurate throws. |
Cody Seals 3B / Ponca City, OK / 2018Seals shows an athletic and projectable frame of 6-foot-4 180-pounds and is as RHP and infielder in Oklahoma’s 2018 class. He ran a 7.70 laser timed 60 and 4.76 home-to-first. During batting practice, Seals utilized an athletic and balanced stance, simple hand load, level bat path and had an exit velo of 86 mph. Defensively, Seals has quick arm action, works through the baseball, positional velo of 75 mph and very accurate throws. On the mound, Seals delivery is smooth, repeatable and has slight cross fire action which makes him deceptive for right-handed hitters. Seal’s fastball was recorded between 72-75 mph sligh run while his curveball between 59-61 mph, gradual 10-to-4 action and thrown for a high percentage of strikes and his changeup was at 70 mph with downward action. |
Logan Steenstra SS / Liberty, MO / 2018Steenstra is very projectable prospect with room to grow in Kansas’ 2018 class. He has a large, athletic frame at 6-foot-5 175 pounds. He ran a 7.76 laser timed 60 and a 4.63 home-to-first. Exit velocity was 85 mph. At the plate during batting practice, Steenstra shows an athletic, open stance, toe-taps, quiet hands and gets good extension through contact. During game action he doubled down the left field line. While on the infield, Steenstra showed good actions, range to both glove and arm side, loose arm action, positional velo of 75 mph and accurate throws. On the mound, Steenstra flashes a loose arm, easy delivery and works consistently downhill. fastball is heavy at 79-82 mph with late action. curveball sweeps with slurve type spin and 10-to-4 action at 68-69 mph |
Kade Peterson SS / Warrensburg , MO / 2018Peterson is a 5-foot-11 165-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder and RHP in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 7.54 laser timed 60 and 4.58 home-to-first. He posted an exit velo of 79 mph. At the plate, Peterson shows a slightly uphill stroke, short stride, smooth load and hit the ball to all fields during batting practice. On the infield, Peterson works through the baseball, showed a positional velo of 80 mph and very accurate throws. On the mound, Peterson showed multiple arm slots with his fastball with the velo ranging between 75-82 mph with occasional run, curveball was 66-69 mph with near fastball arm speed and his changeup was 60-64 mph. |
David Robinson 2B / Bishop Miege, KS / 2018Robinson has a strong and athletic build at 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds. He ran a 7.13 laser timed 60 and a 4.31 home-to-first. At the plate, Robinson uses a leg lift in his load, in line stride and showed some pop to his pull side during bp. During game action he singled up the middle. Defensively, in the outfield Robinson showed athletic movements with a strong arm topping at 86 mph and accurate throws. While on the infield, Robinson had good footwork, a quick arm, 82 mph positional velo and accurate throws. |
Connor Thomson 3B / Olathe North, KS / 2018Thomson is a 6-foot-2 180-pound right-handed hitting infielder and RHP in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 7.86 laser timed 60 and a 4.91 home-to-first. At the plate, Thomson has an exit velo of 87 mph, sprayed the ball in batting practice with some pop, athletic and balanced stance and slightly uphill bat path. While on the infield, Thomson showed good range, positional velo of 71 mph and mostly accurate throws. On the mound, Thomson uses and over the top arm slot and long arm action to throw fastball with occasional cut at 73-77 mph, curveball with gradual 12-to-6 action at 57-59 mph and changeups at 70-71 mph. Thomson’s delivery provides deception with arms and legs going towards the hitter and working smoothly down the mound. |
Treven Veltman C / Wichita West, KS / 2018Veltman is a 6-foot 170-pound right handed hitting catcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 7.61 laser timed 60 and a 4.50 home-to-first. During batting practice he sprayed line drives, shows a tall stance, simple load, flat barrel path and an exit velo of 85 mph. Defensively, Veltman has a quick arm and release, controls body well, positional velo of 77 mph and pop times ranged between 2.00-2.12 seconds. On the mound, Veltman has a repeatable delivery, commands both sides the plate with his fastball which showed occasional cut and was 80-82 mph. He threw his changeup at 70 mph with near fastball arm speed and showed a sharp breaking ball with 11-5 type action. Veltman showed clean arm action and works downhill. |
Kyle Weber SS / Marshall, MO / 2018Weber is a strong bodied 6-foot-1 180-pound infielder in Kansas’ 2018 class. Weber ran a 7.44 laser timed 60 and a 4.59 home-to-first. His exit velo was 89 mph. At the plate during batting practice, Weber uses an abbreviated leg lift in his load, even stride, quiet hands and maintains balance throughout his swing. During game action he singled up the middle. Defensively on the infield, Weber showed good actions, fluid footwork, taps during his transfer, low three quarter arm slot, 75 mph positional velo and mostly accurate throws.

Austin Zellers 1B / Andover Central, KS / 2018Zellers has a strong build at 5-foot-11 190-pounds and is a right-handed hitting infielder in Kansas’ 2018 class. He ran a 7.86 laser timed 60 and a 4.96 home-to-first. Exit velo was recorded at 88 mph. At the plate, Zellers showed a simple load, even stride, gets good extension at contact, level bat path. During game action he hit a line drive single up the middle. Defensively at first base, Zellers moved well, attacked the baseball, long arm action, 76 mph positional velo and mostly accurate throws. |
