Spring Rankings Update : Class of 2025

Cooper Trinkle
Lead Scout

Indiana's junior class currently features 36 players that have already made commitments to play at the Division I level, with still plenty of uncommitted talent left on the board. We have a handful of uncommitted risers highlighted within this update that recruiters need to get eyes-on this summer.

The top of this class has some legitamite prep draft follows for the 2025 class. RHP Matthew Fisher (Evansville Memorial ; Indiana), LHP Caden Crowell (Valparaiso ; Notre Dame), CF Brandon Logan (Fort Wayne Snider ; Vanderbilt), RHP Blane Metz (Floyd Central ; Indiana), and 1B/OF Mason Braun (Knights Academy ; LSU) hold down the Top 5 spots and are sure to garner the attention of professional evaluators next spring. RHP Parker Rhodes (Greenfield-Central ; Xavier), LHP Alex Barr (Kankakee Valley ; Indiana), and RHP Joshua Flores (Lake Central ; Cincinnati) follow closely after electric winter showcase showings backed by strong springs, respectively. The top two middle infielders in the class appear next, SS JD Stein (Carmel ; Uncommitted) and SS Mason Barth (Andrean ; Notre Dame) - two consumate in-game performers that round out the Top 10.

Top Uncommitted Talent Left on the Board

JD Stein SS / Carmel High School, IN / 2025

Rank : Indiana #9, #1 SS

From April 1, 2024 - Stein has received attention from some of the top programs in the country, recently decommitting from Louisville. He was outstanding in all facets in my look, and was able to show off one of the loudest toolsets in the state. Easily one of the top defenders at the shortstop position in the state, Stein moves around the infield with efficient routes and his feet routinely work in-sync. His hands are soft, with outstanding glove-to-hand, and he fires the ball across with plus-plus arm strength. He made a play in my look - going downhill on a soft groundball that he fielded behind the mound and fired off one foot for the out - that he made look rather routine. At the dish, Stein hits in the leadoff spot for Carmel and fits the mold of a table-setter as he advances levels. He has very solid strike zone awareness and stays centered & in his legs throughout a balanced forward move. The barrel works level through the zone, and his hands are quick. He went 2 for 3 in my look, turning a fastball back up the middle for a single, and going to the opposite gap on a 2 strike offspeed pitch for extra bases. JD turned in a 4.18 H-1st on an E5, a present 60-grade runner.

Jaxon Sparks OF / LHP / Carroll Fort Wayne , IN / 2025

Rank : Indiana #23 - #5 OF / #4 LHP

From May 2, 2024 - Sparks is one of the top uncommitted juniors within the Hoosier State and was outstanding in this look as a left-handed arm, showing upside as a true two-way prospect at the collegiate level. Sparks earned the win in a 5.1 IP performance, allowing just (3) hits, (0) ER, (3) BB, and striking out (9). The physical, 6-foot-1, 220 pound southpaw ran his fastball up to 91 early, settling at 87-90 and holding it well into his outing. He mixed with a breaking ball and change, showing very solid feel for all three. Sparks has feel to add & subtract with spin, softening it up to land + flashing some with sharp, late sweep at 78-80 in order to induce chase. His change works with late sink at 76-78 and he punched out a division one recruit RHH with it. It is an interesting profile - the arm has ticked ahead of schedule and he also has real bat speed from the left-side of the dish and is a 6.6 runner.

Lucas Collins LHP / Bishop Dwenger, IN / 2025

Rank : Indiana #27 - #5 LHP

From April 19, 2024 - Collins turned in a quality start in his first appearance as a junior, exiting with a 9-4 lead over #1 ranked Carmel. An athletic, 6-foot, 180 pound southpaw - Collins shows body control and athleticism within his delivery that allows a quick left arm to follow. The top-ranked uncommitted lefty in Indiana's junior class sat 85-88 mph on a fastball with arm-side run, a pitch that he was able to command to his arm-side. It was encouraging to see his slider firmer in this look, now working at 77-80 with short, tight break. The slider has taken a step up and he showed a fading, upper-70s change, as well. The arm stroke works with an athletic sling to a 3/4 slot, and he shows above-average command for his three-pitch mix.

Wyatt Pennington RHP / Avon, IN / 2025

Rank : Indiana #28 - #13 RHP

From May 14, 2024 - Pennington is one of the hottest uncommitted names in the junior class right now and I was able to get eyes on him in a start versus Noblesville. A body control athlete, standing at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, he is an excellent mover within a well-sequenced delivery. The arm works quickly, to multiple slots, and he shows a varied arsenal of pitches. Pennington worked his best four seam fastball up to 90 mph (twice) in my look, settling at 85-88. He shows present feel for a low-80s change, his go-to off speed at the moment, and he threw it with confidence to both right-handed and left-handed hitters alike. Pennington also showed a low-70s curveball from his higher slot, a pitch that flashes bite with bigger shape. The uncommitted right-hander mixed with a sidearm slot, pitching with a low-to-mid 80s, sinking fastball, and a low-70s sweeper from there. The mix of present stuff, to go along with an uber-athletic operation, creates an exciting prospect. He shows more control than command at this point, profiling best in the bullpen, and he has the competitive nature to take the ball in big spots.

Joe Washburn SS / Saint Joseph, IN / 2025

Rank : Indiana #30 - #4 SS

From April 8, 2024 - One of the top-ranked uncommitted position players in Indiana's junior class - Washburn collected two hits, including a triple, and stole two bases in St. Joe's 4-1 win over #2 Mooresville. A twitchy, athletic, 5-foot-8, 155 pounder that represented Indiana at the 2023 Future Games, Washburn hits from the left-side of the dish, hitting out of a wide, balanced stance before making a simple load/stride to land in an ideal hitting position. His hands are quick and deliver a short, accurate barrel. Washburn shows more bat strength than the frame suggests, just missing a pull-side homer in this look. Washburn is a quick-footed defender in the middle of the infield, showing range in this one by going up the middle to take away what appeared to be a single up the middle off the bat.

Gabe Mathison OF / Carmel, IN / 2025

Rank : Indiana #35 - #9 OF

From April 1, 2024 - Mathison is an uncommitted junior outfielder to see for schools with a need in that area. A twitchy, athletic, switch-hitting, 6-foot-1, 175 pounder - Gabe showed some pull-side juice in batting practice from the left-side, appearing to be his more natural side, with twitchy bat speed. He is more simple from the right-side with a level, rotational swing. Mathison showed above average arm strength from the outfield and turned in a 4.21 from the right-side on a groundout.

Peyton Dickens OF / Whiteland Community High School, IN / 2025

Rank : Indiana #38 - #10 OF

From April 19, 2024 - Dickens is one of the more interesting uncommitted prospects in the state. Standing at an athletic, projectable, 6-foot-5, 175 pound frame - the left-handed hitting outfielder has present tools to go along with tons of upside. Our staff has seen him in two looks over the past week, and he combined to go 5 for 7 with a double, and an opposite field home run. Dickens is showing more bat speed this season, with more strength at impact, and it is easy to dream on more coming with his frame having all-kinds of room to add mass. Dickens is a solid runner (6.82 60) with arm strength, and holds two-way upside (easy 86 on the bump). There is some rawness to his game, however the upside is super intriguing. Dickens sets up in an athletic stance and uses a simple toe-tap stride as he works behind the baseball with an upward path.

Drew McTagertt C / William Henry Harrison High School, IN / 2025

Rank : Indiana #39 - #1 C

From March 2, 2024 - '25 C/OF Drew McTagertt (Harrison) is another uncommitted name to know. One of the top in-game, uncommitted hitters left on the board, McTagertt showed pull-side strength in his batting practice round with a short, simple swing, and his projectable, 6-foot-2, 175 pound frame has plenty of room to pack on strength, which will only make the bat more impactful. McTagertt can really catch & throw - showing a fast, twitchy exchange with pops ranging from 1.90 - 2.01 and a 79 mph arm from the crouch.

Riley Agbonhese OF / Zionsville Community High School, IN / 2025

Rank : Indiana #40 - #11 OF

From March 9, 2024 - '25 OF Riley Agbonhese (Zionsville), a top-ranked uncommitted prospect in the junior class, had a strong showing at the Preseason Preview. Noticeably stronger, standing at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, the frame looks the part of a real prospect and he posted strong metrics to match. Agbonhese blazed a 6.69 60 to start the day, which is encouraging to see with the added strength. The uncommitted junior followed that by taking a loud roud of batting practice, showing a loose, whippy swing with some jump off the barrel, reaching a peak exit velocity of 96.5 mph. Agbonhese had a breakout sophomore season at Zionsville, and should have the attention of recruiters as he enters his junior spring after a strong offseason of development.

Grayson Bradberry RHP / Columbia City High School, IN / 2025

Rank : Indiana #41 - #16 RHP

From May 14, 2024 - Bradberry is one of the better uncommitted junior arms that I have seen this spring and will continue to rise within our 2025 rankings list. There is athleticism within a well-sequenced, cross-strided delivery, and he gets down the mound with intent. Bradberry shows quick, natural arm action that he is able to repeat at an above-average rate. The 5-foot-11, 170 pounder came out at 87-90 mph in the first, before settling at 85-87 for his six innings of work. The fastball flashed ride/run and paired well with a short, tight, 76-78 mph slider. Bradberry also showed a 72-74 mph slurve, a softer, bigger version of his slider and he also showed a handful of upper-70s changeups. The uncommitted junior was in the zone at 71% clip in my look and holds starter upside.
