Indy Titans Scout Day: Quick Hits

Cooper Trinkle
Indiana Scouting Director

On Sunday, October 27th, the Prep Baseball Indiana staff hosted the annual Indy Titans Scout Day. Nearly seventy prospects from this organization showcased their abilities in a pro-style workout, gaining access to Prep Baseball's unrivaled, state-of-the-art technology. Read along to find the players that stood out most, along with a full statistical analysis at this link.

Alex Shepherd C / OF / Hamilton Southeastern HS, IN / 2027

+ Shepherd walked away as one of the biggest winners of the event, showcasing catch and throw prowess with a 79 mph arm from the crouch that translated to pops in the 1.9s. His 6.85 60-yard dash is a very solid time for the age and position, while his 5-foot-9, 150 pound frame still holds room for strength gains. Offensively, Shepherd showed a short, upward swing with quick hands and developing barrel strength.

Anthony Back 1B / RHP / Carmel, IN / 2025

+ A physical presence that immediately stood out at check-in, Back stands at 6-foot-6 and 215 pounds with room for projection still in the frame. Offensively, Back showed off a shorter, repeatable stroke with some heaviness to the barrel that translated to low-to-mid 90's exit velocities. A two-way prospect, Back did not pitch at this event, but we have seen the projectable righty show a fastball that works into the mid 80's in previous looks.

Dylan Thompson OF / LHP / Warren Central, IN / 2026

+ Thompson was one of my favorite hitters from this event, taking up the box with his athletic, 6-foot-3, 185 pound frame. He is able to control his weight from a wide, grounded stance with a short hand path that is geared toward backspinning the baseball. He showed developing gap-to-gap power, with his best ball leaving at 90 mph, a number that should elevate as he adds strength. Thompson turned in an above average run time (7.19) and he also doubles as a projectable, strike-throwing southpaw on the bump.

Samuel Spolyar C / 1B / Brebeuf Jesuit Prep, IN / 2026

+ Spolyar shined in batting practice, showing off raw power with his best ball leaving the bat at an impressive, 101.2 mph. The 6-foot-2, 210 pounder set up in a pre-coiled, strong stance with a loose hand waggle that flows well to his launch position. Spolyar turned the barrel with authority, creating tons of bat speed in batting practice, with his best balls struck from gap-to-gap.

JohnPaul Morgan RHP / 3B / Carmel, IN / 2027

+ Morgan is a solid arm to follow in the sophomore class. The projectable, 6-foot-2, 155 pound frame has ample room for strength gains that will surely lead to velocity gains. The Carmel product showcased a loose, whippy arm that produced a fastball up to 83 mph, while also showing aptitude to spin a low-70s slider with sweeper properties for strikes.

Benjamin Spencer RHP / OF / Westfield, IN / 2027

+ Spencer was another '27 arm that emerged as a follow from this event. The wiry, athletic, 6-foot-1, 155 pound right-hander pitched in the low-80s (T 82.5) from a short, compact arm circle that works quick. The fastball spun in the 2300s, getting 18" of IVB on average, and he also showed a tightly-spun, slurvey breaking ball in the upper-60s. Spencer reached 88 mph from the outfield, and turned in a 7.1 60-yard dash, traits to suggest his athleticism will allow him to continue to improve on the bump.

Jackson Maifeld RHP / 3B / Pendleton Heights High School, IN / 2026

+ A strike-throwing RHP with a projectable, 6-foot-2, 190 pound frame, Maifeld pitched with a low ease of operation at 80-82 mph, carrying the fastball (19" of IVB on avg.) & filling the zone with strikes. His delivery worked up-tempo and he showed fast arm speed, an indicator that his fastball velocity will louden with maturity. He showed a starters' mix with feel for a tightly-spun (2400 on avg) slider and faded change (20" of HZB on avg.), both working in the mid-70s.

Ayden Keith LHP / 1B / Zionsville Community High School, IN / 2027

+ Keith is an interesting '27 southpaw attacking from a deceptive, just-below sidearm slot to provide a super unique look. The arm works with a loose whip and the slot creates tons of arm-side run (-15" of HZB on avg.) on a fastball that reached 79 mph. His mid-60's slider showed true sweeper shape, spun into the 2400s, and he was able to command a low-to-mid 70s changeup that he killed spin on (1600 on avg.).
