Inside the Recruitment: 2017 RHP Riley Crean Commits to Indiana

By Phil Wade

Indiana Executive Director

2015 Future Games participant Riley Crean (Bloomington North HS) recently committed to Indiana.

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose to commit to Indiana?

Crean: I chose Indiana because I got to know the coaches and the guys in my class going to play there next year, and it was a place I could see myself for the next 4 years.

PBR: Where did they first see you compete?

Crean: PBR Future Games

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Crean: San Diego State, Xavier, Cincinnati, and Taylor

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it as expected? Easy/Difficult?

Crean: The recruiting process wasn’t too difficult just a long process that was filled with a lot of good memories.

PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career after HS?

Crean: For a college program I was looking for a place that I could develop and get better every day and I think Indiana offers that for me.

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you?  Was there a particular game or event you feel turned the corner for you?

Crean: Over the summer with the Area Code Games and going to Jupiter.

PBR: At what point did you realize you were a college caliber player and become serious about taking your game to the next level?

Crean: The summer going into my Junior year when I started playing well against good competition and then doing well in the PBR Futures Games.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in Indiana, and why?

Crean: T.J. Collett-he is a great hitter that made it hard to leave anything over the plate and had a cannon behind the plate which I tried to steal on and didn’t work out too well.

PBR: What advice would you give young baseball players striving to get where you are at?

Crean: Make the most of everyday with working hard and don’t have any regrets.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Crean: This summer going into my senior year with all the traveling and getting to play in so many different places with guys I really enjoyed playing with.

PBR: Preview your high school season for us.  How do you feel your team will be?  What are your expectations and goals?

Crean: I think we have a lot of different guys on our team that can do a lot of different things on the field. Our goals will be to get better each day and win sectionals and beyond.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer?  What has been your most memorable experience with them?

Crean: I played for Ironmen Prime over the summer and the most memorable experience was playing well in Georgia and making the tournament.
