Top 10 Profiles of 2022: No. 7 Dillon Head

Representing the No. 7 position in our countdown is Clemson commit Dillon Head (Homewood-Flossmoor, 2023). To say that Head has created some buzz around himself would be an understatement. He absolutely dominated on the high school circuit in 2022, earning PBR First-Team All-State honors after he turned in a .478 batting average with seven doubles, two triples, six home runs, 43 runs scored, 26 RBIs, 33 stolen bases and 14 walks to only 12 strikeouts. These stats fail to represent one of Head’s most valuable skillsets, which is his ability to seemingly track down every fly ball hit in his general direction. Head only seemed to pick up steam as he moved onto summer ball; making multiple loud statements at the Area Code Games and the PBR Cup – which resulted in Head taking over the No. 1 position in the state.

The name of the game for Head is speed, and he has plenty of it. He turned in a 6.79 60-time back in 2020, and it’s no surprise to hear reports of him running true plus times since then. His speed plays exceptionally well on the base paths, as he regularly turns in sub-4.00 times to first base and is an absolute threat to steal a base at any time. The left-handed hitter has more power in his bat that one might expect, using twitchy strength to put balls deep into gaps and over the wall. His aforementioned defensive ability alone makes him an intriguing player, but adding all his tools and baseball IQ together makes for an extremely high-end prospect. 

Head will certainly look to put up big numbers again this spring, and he has as good a chance as anyone in Illinois to hear his name called in the upcoming draft.

The Michigan commit had a dominant week at the plate, going 7-for-12 with two home runs, four RBIs, six runs scored and a stolen base. His most impressive game came on Thursday, where he went 4-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base. Head is now hitting .441 on the year and has been a catalyst at the top of Flossmoor's lineup.
