Peoria Preseason I.D.: Statistical Analysis
February 22, 2019
The second annual Peoria Preseason I.D. was held on Feb. 20 at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex with over 70 participating prospects in attendance. Last years' showcase unveiled to us a handful of upside talents from the Central Illinois area and this year was no different.
Yesterday, we shared with you some instant analysis from the showcase in our Quick Hits post. Today, we’re more focused on sharing with you our statistical findings. We measured six separate categories and we’ll detail the leaders in each category below.
Tommy Kelly (Peoria Notre Dame, 2020) set the high standard in the 60-yard dash being the only runner to crack the sub-7.00 second mark at 6.69. Kelly also tied for third in Fastball Velocity, coupling his athletic feet with upside arm talent. In their first PBR showcases, uber athletic prospects Ramon Jimerson Jr. (Sacred Heart Griffin, 2022) and Liam McGill (Bloomington, 2021) tied for second in the 60 at seven seconds flat.
RHP Mitchel Sampson (Galesburg, 2020) headlined the fastball velo chart by three ticks topping 88 mph. Tying for second was the imposing framed trio of RHP Brayden Childress (Robinson, 2020), RHP Blake Donnan (Taylorville, 2020) and RHP Noah Matheny (Galesburg, 2020) notching 85 mph on the gun. Matheny also headlined the INF velo boards tying Aaron Jayne (Blue Ridge, 2020) at 85 mph apiece.
There were plenty of promising exit velocities coming out of the Central Illinois bats. Dylan Drumke (Libertyville, 2020) led the way topping 95 mph from a tee. PJ Jerszynski IV (Rochester, 2020) tied with Jack Shields (Peoria Notre Dame, 2020) for second each topping 94 mph, respectively. Nearly half of the prospects in attendance (28) registered an exit velocity of 85 mph or above while 14 of them hit 90+ mph.
Shields had an all around impressive statistical day coupled with his athletic abilities. He topped the OF velo board at 86 mph, one tick ahead of Drumke at 85 mph.
The sole 2021 prospect on the catcher pop time leaderboard led it, that being Josh Heyder (Washington) with a range of 2.00-2.08. He just outgunned Tyler Steck (Galesburg, 2020) who finished second with a wider range at 2.00-2.11.
Chase Mason (Washington, 2020) and Carter Wiegman (Highland, 2020) were the only backstops to eclipse the 80+ mph mark in catcher velo. Mason lead the way at 83 mph while Wiegman finished second at 81 mph.
Keep an eye out for an announcement regarding when videos from the showcase are posted on player profiles, in addition to full reports on each and every one of the prospects who made it to our Peoria showcase.
