Lockport Preseason ID: Preview

By: Diego Solares
Associate Scout, Staff Writer

On Monday, February 21st, the PBR Illinois staff will head to Bo Jackson’s Elite Sports Dome in Lockport, IL., to host the annual Lockport Preseason ID. This event is perennially one of the largest on our winter calendar and is open to all current high school grad classes, providing us an ample opportunity to check-in on some of the area’s top talents prior to the IHSA season commencing.

EVENT HISTORY

This is the sixth time we’ll be running this event and it’s consistently provided us with quality talent from this particular area of the state. It was at this event last year where both LHP Tore Indomenico (St. Ignatius, 2023; Notre Dame) and C Colin Barczi (Naperville Central, 2023; Vanderbilt) truly established themselves as upper-echelon names in the state’s current junior class. Both players put together eye-popping performances and they each represented Team Illinois at the PBR Future Games in August, too. Hailing from Wisconsin, OF Ryan Drumm (Edgewood, 2023; Butler) also popped at this event and he represented the Badger State at the Future Games as well.

From the state’s current senior class, RHP Max Hansmann (York, 2022; Evansville) and SS/RHP Randy Seymour (Lincoln-Way East, 2022; Michigan State) emerged as high-follow uncommitted names after strong showings at this event - both of them eventually committing to their respective Division I schools as the year went on.

We also saw 1B/LHP Justyn Hart (Marian Catholic, 2024) put together a quality all-around showing at this event last year. Since then, Hart has turned himself into a nationally recognized name and recently committed to Mizzou.

2022 ROSTER

This year’s group, like their predecessors, is already shaping up rather nicely.

Perhaps the most notable name on this roster is INF Jake Zitella (St. Charles East, 2023; Illinois). A 5-foot-11, 195-pound athlete with an ultra-physical presence in the batter’s box, Zitella boasts one of the strongest right-handed swings in the state’s junior class. He put together quite the powerful showing at The Rock this summer to our staff and this will be the first time we’ve personally seen him up-close since then.

Headed to Lockport on Monday is one of the state’s top-ranked uncommitted 2023 prospects: OF/INF Tommy Atkinson (St. Rita). Atkinson was a top-of-the-order contributor for St. Rita last spring as a sophomore and has consistently put bat to ball when we’ve seen him in-game.

1B Jack Fagerson (Plainfield North) and RHP Jake Perrino (Benet Academy) are two intriguing uncommitted juniors on this roster. Fagerson boasts an upside 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame and caught our attention at the Aurora Preseason ID last winter. Perrino was at this event last year, running his fastball up to 84 mph with a lean, lanky 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame.

INF James Love (Joliet West, 2024) was one of the top performers at this event last year and we’re eager to get an up-to-date look at the 6-foot, 180-pound upside sophomore on Monday. Another sophomore to follow on this roster is OF/RHP Devan Tupper (Normal University), who provides two-way intrigue to go along with a lean, lanky 6-foot-2, 170-pound frame.

CIF Enzo Infelise (Providence Catholic, 2025) put together one of the better BP rounds we saw last fall at the Underclass Showcase in October. Infelise represented Team Illinois at the Junior Future Games in August and is a strong right-handed hitter with advanced barrel strength for his age. OF/RHP Liam Arsich (Lincoln-Way Central, 2025) boasts a highly projectable 6-foot-2, 145-pound frame and showed some intrigue at the 2025 Future Prospect Games in July when he ran his fastball up to 80 mph and ran a 7.09 in the 60-yard dash.
