Illinois State Games: 2025 Position Player Analysis

For this event, we invited the top players in Illinois, spanning grad classes 2023-2026. Our mission was to bring the highest level talent in the state to one location for this two-way event. Rosters and teams will be composed of players from each grad class, setting the table to see who are, pound-for-pound, the state's top prospects.

The lone 2026 position player of the event, OF/2B Patrick Connors (Hinsdale Central), more than held his own throughout the two days. Connors, a 2022 Junior Future Games participant, is one of the top 2026 offensive prospects we have seen to-date. Connors has a highly-repeatable, compact swing with above-average bat-to-ball skills and feel to hit. Connors also ran a 7.05 laser-timed 60.
Now lets dive into the top sophomore position players from the event.
TOP 2025 POSITION PLAYERS
1. John McAuliffe, Marist (IL), 2025
Positional Profile: C
Body: 6-0, 175-pounds. Athletic, well-proportioned frame.
Hit: LHH. Wide setup, short stride and loads into the backside. Direct path, uphill through the zone and works gap-to-gap, was on the barrel a lot in BP. Was one of the standout in-game performers of the event at the plate. Drove a number of extra-base hits into both gaps throughout the three games. Finished game play 5-for-8 with three doubles.
Power: 91 max exit velocity, averaged 85.2 mph. 349’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 74 mph. OF - 82 mph. Short arm action, plays from the ear out of a high 3/4 window.
Defense: 2.01-2.04 pop times. Clean actions behind the plate, gains ground through release and quick glove-to-hand transfer.
Run: 7.46 runner in the 60.
2. Peter Visconti II, St. Joseph Catholic (IL), 2025
Positional Profile: C/OF
Body: 5-10, 180-pounds. Compact, strong frame.
Hit: RHH. Quiet, balanced setup, minimal load and short stride. Quiet swing, lets the ball travel, stays short and direct to the ball. Polished, mature approach, works hard contact back up the middle of the diamond and opposite field gap. Was one of the top 2025 bats in attendance. Final Line: 2-for-4, HR, 2B, 2 RBI, 3 BB, SB, R.
Power: 92 max exit velocity, averaged 88 mph. 335’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 71 mph. OF - 83 mph. Short arm action, plays over-the-top and true.
Defense: 2.07-2.17 pop times. Versatile defender, worked out behind the plate and in the outfield. Clean, athletic actions behind the plate, comes out of the chute on-line. In the outfield, steady movements, secures the baseball and developing exchange.
Run: 7.24 runner in the 60.
3. Brady Green, Oak Park-River Forest (IL), 2025
Positional Profile: SS/RHP
Body: 5-10, 160-pounds. Athletic frame with present strength.
Hit: RHH. Balanced setup, fluid load and stride. Controlled intent, athletic hands, bat stays through the zone.
Power: 89 max exit velocity, averaged 73 mph. 268’ max distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 82 mph. Athletic arm action, plays quick and from multiple slots.
Defense: Light, active feet, attacks his hop, comfortable and smooth on the move, plays with above-average body control and fluid release.
Run: 7.31 runner in the 60.
4. Enzo Infelise, Providence Catholic (IL), 2025
Positional Profile: C/3B
Body: 6-2, 190-pounds. Strong, broad-shouldered frame.
Hit: RHH. Balanced, slightly open setup, fluid load and rhythm throughout. Controlled aggression, intent and moxy in the box. Short path, creates advanced bat speed for his age and looks to drive the baseball with authority to all fields.
Power: 95 max exit velocity, averaged 82.3 mph. 312’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 78 mph. Loose, quick, athletic arm, plays strong and over-the-top.
Defense: 1.85-1.94 pop times. Quiet hands, quick feet and advanced glove-to-hand transfer.
Run: 7.87 runner in the 60.
5. Ezra Essex, Marian Catholic (IL), 2025
Positional Profile: OF
Body: 5-7, 148-pounds. Twitchy, athletic build.
Hit: RHH. Narrow, balanced setup, short stride. Quick, athletic hands, stays short and inside the baseball, sprays hard contact to all fields.
Power: 87 max exit velocity, averaged 79.8 mph. 306’ max distance.
Arm: RH. OF - 81 mph. Loose athletic arm, 3/4 slot full arm action, easy arm speed, some carry
Defense: Proper routes, clean actions, attacks the baseball, sure handed, fields within his frame
Run: 6.56 runner in the 60.
6. Derrick Holmes, Brother Rice (IL), 2025
Positional Profile: SS/RHP
Body: 5-11, 165-pounds. Highly-athletic build for his age.
Hit: RHH. Balanced setup, fluid quiet load and leg-kick timing trigger. Twitchy hands, short and direct to the ball, hands stay on top and line-drive contact to all fields. Finished game play 2-for-7 with a walk.
Power: 89 max exit velocity, averaged 80.7 mph. 288’ max distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 84 mph. Arm plays accurately across the diamond from a 3/4 slot.
Defense: Feel for the position, confident, actiony middle infielder, plays from the ground up, athletic quick feet and soft hands. Plays with body control and rhythm on the move.
Run: 7.00 runner in the 60.
7. Quinn Schambow, Libertyville (IL), 2025
Positional Profile: C
Body: 6-0, 180-pounds. Strong lower half.
Hit: RHH. Balanced setup, minimal load and short stride. Strong hands, long path, easy jump off the barrel, hard gap-to-gap contact.
Power: 93 max exit velocity, averaged 88.4 mph. 346’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 80 mph. Short, easy arm action plays with life.
Defense: 1.99-2.19 pop times. Natural catcher actions, plays with ease and clean, repeatable transfers.
Run: 7.59 runner in the 60.
8. Kolin Adams, Mount Carmel (IN), 2025
Positional Profile: OF
Body: 5-9, 162-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Balanced setup, fluid load and short stride. Loose, athletic swing, natural lift and works gap-to-gap on the barrel. In-game stats: 2-for-7, R.
Power: 85 max exit velocity, averaged 82.2 mph. 287’ max distance.
Arm: LH. OF - 85 mph. Quick, athletic arm action, throws are on target with carry and play out of a 3/4 slot.
Defense: Natural outfield actions, plays with rhythm and feel; proper routes, gets behind the baseball and plays through on-line with a clean release.

9. Gavin Triezenberg, Brother Rice (IL), 2025
Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 6-2, 180-pounds. Wide-shouldered build with developing strength.
Hit: RHH. Balanced setup, open base, active hands pre-pitch, short stride. Strong hands. Long and level bat path, flashed juice off the barrel and covered the plate.
Power: 85 max exit velocity, averaged 79 mph. 276’ max distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 77 mph. Short, athletic arm action, 3/4 slot with ability to change angles.
Defense: Easy, smooth defender, confident actions, soft hands and plays tall through release at times.

10. Wyatt Wawro, Downers Grove South (IL), 2025
Positional Profile: OF
Body: 5-9, 135-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Relaxed setup, easy load and short path. Fluid athletic swing, lift through hitting zone, creates whip and feel for the barrel. Finished game play 2-for-7, BB, R, RBI.
Power: 87 max exit velocity, averaged 76.8 mph. 287’ max distance.
Arm: LH. OF - 75 mph. Loose arm action delivers from a high 3/4 slot and produces accurate throws.
Defense: Proper routes, gets behind the baseball, fields out in front, shuffle to release

Liam Arsich, Lincoln-Way Central (IL), 2025
Positional Profile: OF/RHP
Body: 6-3, 160-pounds. Long-levered, upside frame.
Hit: RHH. Balanced, quiet setup, short stride. Short, compact swing, hands stay on top of the baseball and flat through the zone. Feel for the barrel, line-drive approach with the ability to backspin the baseball.
Power: 90 max exit velocity, averaged 83.9 mph. 291’ max distance.
Arm: RH. OF - 86 mph. Loose arm action, low 3/4 slot, throws flashed carry.
Defense: Light on his feet, secures the baseball through release.

Connor Blue, O'Fallon (IL), 2025
Positional Profile: RHP/1B
Body: 6-0, 180-pounds. Wide-shouldered, strong overall build.
Hit: RHH. Tall, balanced setup, early short stride. Short path, uphill tendencies, strong hands, on the barrel.
Power: 91 max exit velocity, averaged 86.4 mph. 341’ max distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 79 mph. Long arm action, high 3/4 slot, plays accurately.
Defense: Bouncy defender, athletic for his age and position. Soft hands and feel for the position.

Patrick Connors, Hinsdale Central (IL), 2026
Positional Profile: OF
Body: 5-10, 155-pounds. Strong frame for age.
Hit: RHH. Balanced setup, minimal load and short stride. Highly repeatable, flat and through the zone a long time. Uses the whole field and consistently on the barrel.

Ryan Dabe, Huntley (IL), 2025
Positional Profile: OF/SS
Body: 6-1, 170-pounds. Athletic build with developing strength.
Hit: RHH. Narrow, slightly open setup, short leg-lift trigger. Aggressive swing, stays on the barrel and looks to leverage baseballs to the pull-side.
