4A Burbank Regional: Brother Rice Rolls Oak Lawn In Finals

BURBANK, IL – The Crusaders made quick work of Oak Lawn on Saturday rolling the Spartans 11-1 in six innings to win the 4A Burbank Regional.
Senior second baseman and Illinois commit, Mike Massey, got the scoring started for Brother Rice with an opposite field solo homerun to left in his first at bat. The Crusaders followed it up with a five spot in the second inning started by a Brett Bagus two-run single and capped by RBI singles from Andy Lopez and Jack Guzek.
The lone Spartan run of the game came in the fourth inning when lead-off hitter and centerfielder Patrick Slattery launched a home run to left.
The Crusader tack on runs came in the fifth when four consecutive extra base hits scored four runs capped by a two-run homerun by Joseph Preusser.
Brother Rice starting pitcher Jack Nelligan picked up the win in an efficient five innings of work. Nelligan was perfect outside of the Slattery homerun, facing one over the minimum and striking out seven. Jack Guzek relieved Nelligan in the sixth, striking out a pair.
Brother Rice advances to the 4A Chicago Sectional at St. Rita where the will face the St. Rita Mustangs in the Sectional Semifinals on Wednesday, June 1 at 4:30pm.
