Patience paid off for Georgia in Game 1 v.s Minnesota. Minnesota jumped out in front with an early 2-0 lead. Jayzen Johnson was able to work out of a bases loaded jam keeping Georgia within 2. Georgia struggled to find their rhythm early against a good Minnesota arm until the top of the 3rd when the walks started to pay off. Carter Allen drew a leadoff walk followed by a single up the middle from Ryan Johansen. Jake Ivester then drew a bases loaded walk to put Georgia on the board. This was followed up by a Miles Norman RBI single to bring Georgia within 1. Caleb Hudson then drew a bases loaded walk, tying it up 3-3. This was only the beginning of a huge offensive performance for Georgia as they went on to put up 4 runs in the top of the 5th. Aden Rucker was able to put the ball in play and Georgia was able to capitalize off of some Minnesota mistakes making the score 6-4. In the top of the 6th, Jax Lathem was able to drive one into the left center field gap for a bases clearing double, extending Georgia’s lead to 10-4. Between the duo of Georgia’s pitchers, Braden Little and Caleb Hudson, Georgia was able to shut down the Minnesota offense and take Game 1 of the tournament 10-4.
