Inside the Georgia Rankings: 2022 Prospects to Watch
August 26, 2019
Today, we conclude our coverage of the Georgia Class of 2022 rankings, to view the whole list CLICK HERE. Last week, we took an in-depth look at the top-10 with our Top-10 Analysis. We then turned our attention to prospects who saw their stock rise our burst onto the scene this summer in, Risers and Newcomers.
Today, we take a look at the bottom third of our initial top-70.
Kicking things off is No. 50 OF Elijah Banks (Riverdale). Banks made his first impression with our scouts at the LakePoint Classic. The 6-foot-2, 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder showed off quick hands and a gap-to-gap approach at the plate. As he matures, coupled with his quick hands, we can expect to see an increased power output, adding another dimension to his game.
Two pitching prospects who are intriguing with clean mechanics and fastballs sitting in the low 80s are No. 61 RHP/INF Logan Bogue (Habersham Central) and No. 62 RHP/C David Bell (Greenbrier). Bogue stands 6-foot-2, 175-pounds with a strong frame and room to add more. He repeats a short arm action to an over-the-top slot, using his lower half well. At the LakePoint Classic showed an effective fastball/curveball combo, working 81-83, touching 84 while dropping in a 12/6 breaker at 65-66. Bell caught the attention of both our PBR Georgia staff at the LakePoint Classic and our PBR Alabama staff at the Southeast Summer Championships. Bell is similar to Bogue with his fastball/slider combination. The fastball plays up to 84 mph (2267 rpm) and is complemented nicely by a 10/4 slider at 73.
A pair of hard hitting first basemen to keep an eye on as they progress and mature are No. 54 1B/LHP Dawson Coe (Colquitt County) and No. 63 1B Andon Lewis (Calhoun). Coe, at 6-foot-1, 188-pounds, made quite an impression at the Georgia Showdown. The right-handed hitter has loose, strong hands, finding the barrel routinely. And, he is just tapping into the power potential of his frame. Lewis is a formidable 6-foot-1, 193-pounds with strength throughout and room for more. At the Georgia Showdown, he made consistent hard contact (exit velocity between 91-95), pounding line drives middle to pull-side.
C Orlando Santiago-Martinez (Dalton) and OF Jacob Mann (North Cobb) come in at No. 64 and No. 65 after swinging hot bats at LakePoint this summer. Santiago-Martinez is still physically maturing at 5-foot-9, 160-pounds but is already driving the ball with ease. Mann has a 6-foot, 160-pound athletically-built frame, displaying smooth actions. A bit of a free swinger, Mann takes hacks at the plate, but still showed the ability to make consistent contact.
Rounding out the top-70 is No. 68 LHP/1B Tristan Nguyen (Johnson), No. 69 OF Jackson Alford (Walton) and No. 70 SS Alex Adams (Mount Paren). We saw Nguyen at the Georgia Showdown where he showed his two-way potential. Pitching up to 83 mph and swinging a powerful bat from the left-side, it is tough to tell what position on the field Nguyen projects at best. Alford, the athletic 5-foot-10, 155-pound outfielder, has a solid offensive foundation with good barrel control and quick hands. He held is own playing up at the 16U level for East Cobb .22s all summer. Lastly, Adams closes things out. A high motor middle infielder, Adams has a long, lanky frame at 5-foot-11, with present athleticism. The all-around player made contributions in every facet of the game for Titans Baseball.
