INSIDE THE 2022 RANKINGS: CATCHERS

#1 LUKE DAVIS - CYPRESS HS - USC COMMIT

No. 1 player in the state and #6 in our National rankings, Luke Davis of Cypress HS is a USC commit. The switch-hitting catcher possesses raw power, particularly from the left side. Davis also exhibits the arm talent to impact the game. Pop times range in the 1.90-2.00 with carry and zip. Davis could be a candidate to reclassify as he is a year older in his current class.

#5 MALCOLM MOORE - CK MCCLATCHY - STANFORD COMMIT

Moore is near the top of both our state rankings and is also nationally recognized in the 2022 class. 6-foot-1 185-pound left-handed hitting catcher who can really swing it and will probably be his permanent position. Demonstrates high level hand eye coordination and swing adjustability. The power will play as a plus future tool and the hit tool should play no less than average. Defensively he is a quality receiver both in the top and bottom of the zone and both sides of his body, gets in multiple positions to receive, showed strong soft hands, willingness to block. 

#9 KARSON BOWEN - ORANGE LUTHERAN - UNCOMMITTED

Medium sized, compact, strong frame with current athleticism. Bowen is in the top 10 in the 2022 class in the entire state. A two-way player for Orange Lutheran that will primarily be a catcher or corner outfield at the college level. Behind the plate the skills are very strong with current arm strength, and showing the ability to keep the ball on the bag with 2.04-2.13 throws to second base. Very quiet behind the dish presenting a good target and working hard to help his pitchers. Bat is very strong showing quickness into the zone and firm wrists/hands.

#22 JACOB GALLOWAY - HARVARD-WESTLAKE - TEXAS TECH COMMIT

Medium sized frame standing 5-foot-10, 175-pounds. Galloway shows some physicality to his game. He’s strong through the shoulders down into the arms with some strength in the core and lower half. Setups quietly in a deep crouch and shows soft hands that he uses to frame well. Often beats the pitch to the spot without giving away location and presents extremely well. Shows the ability to block and recover quickly and handles velocity with ease giving comfort to his battery mate. He started to tap into his power early on in the season and will be exciting to follow for the next couple years.

#30 ANDREW PYLE - LA MIRADA - LONG BEACH ST. COMMIT

Athletic player with lean, strong build that keeps making leaps and bounds behind the plate and at the dish. Defensive skills are a plus tool for Pyle demonstration athleticism, and lateral quickness that matched up with a quick exchange and arm strength with 2.02-2.08 throws to second base . At the dish Pyle works from a narrow stance with high back elbow and high hands; quick compact bat working upwards through the zone showing easy lift to the outfield. He became Jared Jones primary catcher before the season was cut short. Very talented 2022 player who will keep improving because of his consistent effort and strength in tools.
