Region 4 champ Woodstock rolled into Lilburn on Monday and put the homestanding Panthers' backs against the wall by snagging a 4-3 win in game one one of the series. Parkview would eventually come back to win games two and three to advance to the GHSA championship round against Mill Creek next week.

All of the runs for the Wolverines came via the long ball, as Reinhardt-bound outfielder Ethan Foley swatted a 3-run shot in the second inning, while third baseman Hayden Harris, a Bryan College commit, provided the eventual winning margin two innings later. Parkview was led offensively by outfielder Logan Cerny, a Troy signee, who went 2-3 with a home run of his own.

Scouting Notes

Woodstock 2019 LHP Josiah Siegel gutted his way to a complete game effort against an offense that was averaging more than eight runs per game in the post-season, throwing two-thirds of his pitches for strikes and not surrendering a walk, while striking out five. Pitching out of a three-quarter slot, he repeated his delivery well and showed good composure throughout the game, along with some fire in big spots. He mainly worked armside with a fastball at 80-81, occasionally showing in to right-handed hitters and also elevating effectively with two strikes. He has feel for a change-up at 70-71 with some late dive that he was willing to double-up with. Also mixed in a curveball at 69-71 that played up when he began using it early and in down counts, as opposed to a as putaway pitch.

Parkview 2019 catcher Jonathan French, a Clemson commit, was the top prospect on the field. Possesses physicality throughout his 6-foot, 200-pound frame. Impressive defensive abilities include a soft glovehand when receiving and presenting borderline pitches well to the umpire. A quick transfer and plus arm strength with carry, along with straight-line, accurate throws, led to between inning pop times of 1.89-2.02. The right-handed hitter displayed good balance at the dish, consistently barreling the baseball throughout the game. Stayed through a change-up fading away from him for a single his first at-bat before a hard groundout to second base and a smoked lineout to left field in his subsequent trips to the plate.

Sporting strength in his 5-foot-8, 165-pound frame, Parkview 2019 second baseman Allan Del Castillo continues to display a quality all-around skill set. Solid defensive actions at second base, fundamentally sound and made all the routine plays. At the dish, the right-handed hitter starts from an open stance and strides to a square base. Minimal wasted motion leads to a repeatable swing during which he displays excellent balance and a feel for the barrel. Saw off-speed pitches well and let them travel into the hitting zone.
