Deep South Invitational Positional Breakdown: Infielders
October 7, 2019
There were a total of 10 Georgia infielders present at the Deep South Invite. This group really stood out during the infield portion of the morning workout and that carried over into the games that followed. A couple of these infielders also threw an inning on the mound during game play. Here are those 10 infielders that were present at the event.
Luke Teague 3B / OF / Heritage, GA / 2020The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Teague showed good strength at the deep south. At the plate he stands upright and has a slight uppercut to his bat-path, never really getting to a strong front side and shows potential to activate even more power as he learns to get more leverage from his lower half. Teague shows good gap type power with the ability to lift the baseball. Defensively Teague showed solid hands and feet around the bag, but can play upright at times. Teague profiles to a corner position bases on strength and offensive potential. |
Eric Snow SS / Mary Persons, GA / 2022Snow is a very interesting young 2022 infield prospect. At 5-foot-10, 150-pounds he gets good bat-speed from his frame. He sets up straight away with a deep load, he almost gets to an arm bar, but does a good job of not being locked out, leaving himself a direct path to the baseball. Snow centered balls for hard contact all day and was impressive both in batting practice and in live situations. Very interesting bat on this youngster. Defensively Snow shows projectable arm stroke and actions, his feet were always underneath him and played with solid range and control. Lots of upside to this middle of the field prospect and will be a very close follow over the coming years. |
Ryan Mimbs SS / OF / East Laurens, GA / 2021Mimbs shows an excellent build at 6-foot-2, 180-pounds. Mimbs put of some of the best offensive measureless at the Deep South this year. His 90 mph exit velocity was impressive and it showed up in the batters box also. Mimbs has a nice easy stroke with good finish. He is straight away and direct with a strong ability to get on plane with the baseball. Defensively Mimbs plays a little upright, but his hands work and he shows an accurate arm. Mimbs has a strong corner profile at the next level with serious offensive upside to deliver on. |
Taylor Shultz SS / 2B / Allatoona, GA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 27 / POS: 6
Shultz continues to impress the PBR Georgia staff. At 5-foot-8, 160-pounds what he does not have in size he makes up for with instincts and baseball IQ. Defensively Schultz is and has always been instinctive and reliable, knowing how to find an advantage and rarely out of position. Offensively Shultz has serious bat control and small ball ability and fits the profile of an old school two hole type presence. Don't look for Shultz to be much taller, but he will get stronger and it will impact his arm strength and ability to drive the baseball. He profiles as a premium defender in the middle of the field, that delivers on competitive AB's every time out. |
Zach Terry 1B / 3B / Allatoona, GA / 2021Terry is a thick strong bodied first-baseman, he stands in at 6-foot, 200-pounds and shows the ability to impact the baseball, turning in an 89 mph exit velocity off a tee and also making loud contact during the live game portion of the Deep South (95 off the bat). Terry set up at the plate straight away and does a very good job of getting his lower half involved, showing excellent balance and the ability to through the baseball and use the big part of the field. In terms of balance, bat-speed and approach Terry was a big standout on the offensive side. Terry shows solid hands around the base and has no problem catching what he gets too. Terry profiles at first-base at the next level, and that is a direct result of having excellent offensive ingredients, that should only grow as he gets stronger. |
Nico Senese SS / OF / East Coweta, GA / 2022Rankings StateRank: 30 / POS: 7
Senese made his second trip to the Deep South Invite and he continues to impress. He has an excellent baseball build at 6-foot-2, 165-pounds and is only one going to build upon that. Senese has good actions defensively and offensively. he projects well in the batters box, as he shows excellent balance and rhythm in the box. He makes consistent hard contact. Defensively he does things with ease, his feet and hands work well together. Senese is an excellent combination of now ability with upside. |
Dominick Scalese SS / RHP / Wesleyan School, GA / 2023This young shortstop prospect made a strong impression at the Deep South. Even though we have seen Scalese a good amount over the summer, it was great to get an up close and personal look at him against older competition. Scalese delivered on both sides of the ball, defensively he has some actions with good feet and an accurate arm. While he has good balance and use of his lower half at the plate. Scalese showed a strong all fields approach both in batting practice and in the live game. Scalese uses a slight leg kick to load and would like to see more rhythm and load from his hands, but he is effective. This is a really good looking young infield prospect, that will be watch closely over the coming years. |
