Trinity Catholic Holds Off North Florida Christian; Providence Perfect at TOC
March 18, 2019
JACKSONVILLE, FL - Day two of the Tournament of Champions at Providence School saw North Florida Christian would take on Trinity Catholic in game one, followed by Providence against Trinity Catholic in game two.
Trinity Catholic would jump out to an early 3-0 lead in the second and not look back. North Florida Christian would get one back in the fourth on a RBI double from Josiah Miller. Wes Powell would hold North Florida Christian in check most of the day though, striking out three allowing three hits and one run through five innings.
2021 Trevor Hanselman would come in relief of Carson Neal, and despite giving up a homerun to Mac Gibas, he would make an impression. Working mostly 84-86 mph, touching 87 mph, he shows a compact, quick arm with a high ceiling. Most impressively though was his ability to spin his curveball. The pitch worked in the 76-78 mph range and has tight spin and late depth. North Florida Christian would eventually scratch across a pair of runs, but would fall 6-3 to Trinity Catholic.
Really like the upside from 2021 Trevor Hanselman. Was a standout at Preseason All State and working 84-87, quick arm with feel to spin CB. #PBRSPINZONE @ShooterHunt @NFC_Baseball pic.twitter.com/AVSiwKciHF

Game 2 was one of the more highly anticipated games of the weekend. Trinity Catholic's RHP Tyler Owens, the No 10 player in Florida's Class of 2019, matched up against the No 5 player in 2019, Providence's Tyler Callihan and No 21 Nathan Hickey.
Providence would jump on Owens in the first, with a leadoff single from Josh Gray and a home run from Tucker Talbott, Providence would finish the first up 4-0.
Owens would settle in after the first though. Working mostly 92-94, touching 96 and 97 mph, the fastball has some life and he shows a lot of hand speed out in front. More impressively, he flashed an above average slurve and change up at times. The slurve worked 75-79 mph and when he got to extension, the pitch showed hard, late action. The change was mostly straight, but showed a feel for the pitch throughout his outing at 82-84 mph. Owens would exit after four innings, allowing four runs on four hits while striking out four.
Tyler Owens with a long 1st. Worked 92-96, showed above avg slurve early and went to CH often. Providence attacked FB early. Struck out 2, Providence up 4-0. pic.twitter.com/9xVObCK5nh

Tucker Talbot got the start on the mound for Providence and dominated for six innings. Working mostly fastball/slider combo, he attacked the Trinity Catholic hitters. The fastball worked mostly 84-87 mph with arm side run, while the short, tight slider was 72-74 mph and threw the occasional charge up at 76-78 mph.
Callihan would go 0-2 with two strikeouts off of Owens, but the relief pitcher would make his first mistake and Callihan deposited it deep over left- center to extend the lead to 7-0.
Well Tyler Callihan continues to punish mistakes. After Owens exits, he unloads on one to right-center for a 3 run #PBRBombSquad #MLBDraft @NathanRode @ShooterHunt pic.twitter.com/aRKCSmZ0b7
