Top 2018 Florida Outfielders

With yesterday’s release of the 2018 Florida rankings, we will be taking a more in depth look at the top players by position. Today we will focus on the top outfielders in this class and explain why these players separate themselves from the rest of pack.

Connor Scott OF, Tampa Plant HS 2018
The number one overall player in this class has proven, at the varsity level, that he can track down balls in the gap with long, loose strides and he can hose runners out at the plate with ease. The Florida commit stands at 6-foot-3, 170 and shows a smooth and easy swing that always seems to square up quality pitching. Scott consistently drives the ball in both gaps and will obtain more power as he gets older and stronger. He has the ability to hit anywhere in the top of the order and looks like a true centerfielder even though he also has the arm to play right field.

Christian Robinson OF, Viera HS 2018
Robinson, who is the second best outfielder in the state and ranked eighth overall, is another Florida commit who possesses skills well beyond his age. He is a more physical player as he is listed at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds with a strong, athletic, and projectable frame. Christian already shows average major league across the board and possibly even above average speed and arm strength. Everything will continue to improve with maturity and reps but Robinson already looks like a college player when he is suited up in uniform.

Kendrick Calilao OF, The First Academy 2018
Ranked at number 20 in the state and coming in as the third best outfielder, Calilao is the only uncommitted player out of the three, but he definitely will not be for long. Kendrick easily throws the best out of this group as he shows at least above average major league arm strength. He shows consistency in his hitting with a short, quick swing that produces hard line drives to all fields. Calilao stands at 6 foot, 178 pounds with room to fill out and add strength. Like the rest of the group, his power will increase with maturity.

Overall, these players separate themselves from everyone else with their size, strength, tools, projectability, and their proven consistency in high level pitching. These three young men can play all three outfield spots and will likely be able to do the same at the next level. Look for all of these players to stick out in the headlines throughout the rest of this year and into 2016.
