TAMPA—Tampa Catholic was able to handle Berkeley Prep 9-0 in their 4A regional semifinal game Tuesday night. The Crusaders received a strong pitching performance from 2015 RHP and Northwest Florida State College Signee Reeves Martin who threw six innings and gave up no runs on three hits with four strikeouts. Offensively, Tampa Catholic bunted numerous times and took advantage of multiple Buccaneer errors to score most of their runs. Two of their runs, however, came off a two run home run by 2017 INF Tyler Lala.
The top of the first inning really set the tone for the game and gave Tampa Catholic so much momentum that it was tough for Berkeley to get anything going after. The Crusaders scored five runs in the inning, two which came off errors, one off a fielder’s choice, and two off Lala’s home run. On the offensive side for the Buccaneers, their four total hits all came in separate innings and Martin and 2016 LHP Roland Chacon filled up the zone so well that they never really came close to scoring.
In later innings, 2015 OF Josh Russo had an RBI single and 2018 OF Jordan Lala drove in a run to help Tampa Catholic cruise to a regional final.
