Strong Performance from Miller Carries Mitchell Over East Lake
March 7, 2020
Trinity, FL - The much anticipated match-up between both powerhouses of Mitchell and East Lake did not disappoint. Getting the start for Mitchell was FGCU commit and possible draft prospect Mason Miller. Miller got into some trouble in the first by loading the bases with no outs, but struck out the side to get out of it with no damage done.

He went on to strike out seven batters in a row with a 88-92 fastball, mixing in a very well 70-75 curveball that helped counter his strong performance. The southpaw had seven strikeouts, one earned run, and allowed only two hits in four innings of work.
After Miller, 2020 Newberry commit Adam Bingham came in and was very strong to help finish off the game for Mitchell. He was very effective in his three innings of work with a fastball that had movement and a change-up to get multiple fly-outs. He finished with three strikeouts, three hits, and no runs.
On the other side, uncommitted 2020 Nate Culver for East Lake held his own against the very talented Mitchell team. He was featuring an 82-86 mph fastball with a curveball and change-up mix keeping the Mustangs off balanced early. He held them scoreless until the 4th, going five strong innings with two strikeouts, two hits, and two earned runs against a strong lineup.
Offensively for the Mustangs, 2021 uncommitted Anderson Adler had a very good night going 2 for 2 with a walk. 2020 PHSC commit Kyle Murphy crushed a ball off the CF wall for a double to help the Mustangs get on the board for their first run. With a balk by Culver, Mitchell produced another run to take the lead 2-1 in the 4th.
In the bottom of the 5th, uncommitted 2021 Keaton Howard came up and produced a perfect bases loaded suicide squeeze to give Mitchell a 3-1 lead late in the game.
For East Lake, 2020 Florida commit Ryan Slater had two hits with one being a sharp RBI double that gave them the lead early. Jacob Von Thaden, another 2020 uncommitted grad, also had a strong hit ball off the CF wall in the top of the 7th to get a runner on for the Eagles late, but it wasn't enough. Mitchell took the win in a hard fought and entertaining game, 3-1.
