Pitcher's Duel Leads to Walk-off Win for Plant City
March 10, 2020
Plant City, FL - Monday night featured a pitcher's duel between Plant City and Bloomingdale. For Plant City, 2020 HCC commit Jarod Wingo got the start, and was sharp for the Raiders. After a little bit of a shaky first inning that led to an early run after singles from uncommitted 2022 Drake Harman and 2020 Wake Forest commit Brock Wilken, Wingo was able to settle in. He was sitting 83-87 mph with the fastball and mixed in a sweeping 70-73 mph curveball. Wingo would go six innings, allowing just that one run while striking out five.

On the other side for Bloomingdale was 2022 Stetson commit Jack Owens. Owens is an athletic right-hander that stands 5-foot-11, 160 pounds and throws a low effort fastball 85-89 mph. Owens mixed in a 71-74 mph curveball that was effective all game. Owens would go six shutout innings with six strikeouts.

Bloomingdale pulled Owens after six innings, and they immediately ran into trouble in the bottom of the 7th. Down 1-0, 2020 Cole Cothren walked to start the 7th for Plant City. After a miscue on a sac bunt, Plant City had runners on the corners with no outs. 2020 West Florida commit Tyler Dowdy hit an RBI double to LC to tie the game up. Bloomingdale intentionally walked the next batter to load the bases for uncommitted 2022 Colin Shultz. Shultz came up and drove in the game winning run with a walk-off single to right. The Plant City Raiders would go on to win 2-1 with a last inning comeback.

2020 Wake Forest commit Brock Wilken swung the bat well, collecting two hits and finding the barrel in each at-bat. The 6-foot-4, 215 pound 3B/C continues to show why he is the No 13 player in the Florida Class of 2020. Uncommitted 2022 Drake Harman collected two hits on the day and reached base three times. The athletic outfielder showed quick hands and continues to be a 2022 to follow.
