Parker Foss Throws Complete Game Shutout To Send North Broward to District Finals
May 3, 2018
Parker Foss would out-duel the talented left-handers from Cardinal Gibbons, Timothy Manning and Kyle Petri. Foss would throw a complete game shutout, allowing five hits while striking out four.
Manning would hold North Broward in check the first two innings. A single from Dylan Goldstein followed by an error would bring up clean-up hitter Gabriel Esquivel. Esquivel would then double, giving North Broward a 1-0 lead. North Broward would then add a second run on a wild pitch and their third run on a sacrifice fly.
Esquivel would add another run on an RBI single fifth giving North Broward a 4-0 lead. While Edwards is the one with the 2018 MLB Draft attention, and really stood out offensively, Esquivel was the one to stand out offensively He was 3-3 with a walk and a pair of RBIs on the evening. The big, strong right-hander worked with rhythm and was on time all day. He has present bat speed and aggressive through the zone while staying compact. He has an impressive offensive toolset that helped carry North Broward to the 4-0 win and a matchup against Pompano Beach for a district title.
Scout Notes
Xavier Edwards, SS, North Broward (2018)
Vanderbilt recruit. The shortstop is undersized, but a plus athlete. He has two plus tools in his run and defensive tools. He was 0-4, but had home to first times in the 4.06-4.15 range all from the right side. He really stood out defensively, ranging effortlessly with an extremely quick transfer and plenty of arm. There is a high ceiling with the athleticism, the bat will have to show some more gap-to-gap power, but the present bat to ball skills and plus run and defensive tools will have him high on many teams boards, most likely a late second to middle of the third round.
Gabriel Esquivel, 1B, North Broward (2019)
Uncommitted, listed at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds he has a big, strong frame. Was 3-3 with a double, single and two RBIs. He works with rhythm and aggressive through the zone while staying compact. There is power potential and with above average bat speed and present strength. A corner bat with power potential to follow.
Park Foss, LHP, North Broward (2019)
The left hander pounded the zone for seven innings. While working mostly 76-80 mph hemixed the fastball, changeup and curveball all for strikes at any time. Undersized arm that if he makes a jump in velocity could be a quality add to a program with the ability and feel to pitch.
Timothy Manning, LHP, Cardinal Gibbons (2020)
Florida recruit. The left hander was squeezed most of his outing. He battle through a few errors and showed poise on the mound. The stuff if 86-88 with life and a sweeping slider that is going to play up and continue to get better. The poise and composure in a big game, coupled with the stuff will make him a high follow.
