No 2 Calvary Christian tops No 3 Pace 6-3

In a match-up between preseason No 2 Calvary Christian and No 3 Monsignor Pace that featured 21 committed players, a lot of high-level talent was on display in the first game of the regular season at the Falcon Challenge. Calvary would get out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a lead off double from Ben Rozenblum and a sacrifice flyout to right-field from Raynel Delgado. Roberto Pena started for Calvary and would work out of a first inning jam and settle in to go six innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out two. Pena worked 88-90 mph most of the game topping out at 92 mph early. He didn’t have his best off-speed, but flashed a quality slider at 75-78 mph and battled through a tough Pace lineup.
Pace would get on the board in the third thanks to a home run from Sammy Infante. Infante, who was playing center in this game, is an extremely athletic player who can also play shortstop. There is a lot of like about Infante, with above average speed and an advanced approach at the plate. He is balanced and simple and can see even more power coming in the future.
Yordani Carmona go the start for Pace. After giving up the first inning run, he settled in well. The fastball worked mostly 86-88 touching 90 mph, but played higher than the velocity. He got at least eleven swing and misses on the pitch and appears to have late riding life. He also a sweeping slider that garnered a handful of swing and misses, working 78-79 mph. After a leadoff walk to Rozenblum in the 5th, he would steal second and be driven in by a hard hit single from Dante Girardi which would finish Carmona’s day. He would be replaced by Nicholas Regalado, who would struggle with command and fail to get an out before being replaced by 2020 Albert Hernandez.
Hernandez would give up one run on a wild pitch before settling down with some dominate stuff. He would work mostly 88-90, touching 92 mph with the fastball. He has a loose, easy arm action from a 3/4 slot. He showed a hard curveball with 11/5 shape at 75-80 mph with depth.Scout Notes- Sign in to see notes on the following players.
