No 16 Jesuit Scores 7 in the 6th to Take Down No 2 Pace

No 2 Pace took on No 16 Jesuit at North Broward Prep on Friday afternoon and would jump out to an early 1-0 in the first hanks to an RBI single from the newly reclassified 2019 grad Robert Moya. Moya, a physical right-handed hitter would have a big day, finishing 4-4 with three single, a double and that RBI. Pace would extend the lead in the second thanks to a leadoff single from M.C. Sagaro and an RBI double from Michael Machin. Pace would continue to expand the lead in the third inning, scoring six runs on five hits including a three run home run from Albert Hernandez.

2019 LHP Yordani Carmona got the start on the mound for Pace. Carmona would go four innings, allowing two runs on four hits, with one walk while striking out three. The Miami commit worked mostly 87-89 touching 90 mph and kept the Tiger hitters off balance for most of the evening.

Jesuit would only manage those two runs off of Carmona thanks to four consecutive hits from Lee, Casale, Russo and Politz. Bennett Lee, the uncommitted 2020 catcher, would lead the Tiger offense on the evening, going 3-4 with a pair of singles a double and an RBI.

Albert Hernandez would relieve Carmona for Pace, holding Jesuit at bay in the fifth. Although a leadoff single from BJ Graham would get things rolling for Jesuit in the sixth.

Following Graham, Jonathan Shoop would draw a walk and Graham would then be driven in by a double from brandon Incardona. Bennett Lee would add another run with an RBI single, followed by a pair of hit batsmen. That would bring to the plate, senior Andrew Kynes. Kynes would single to right-center field, driving in a pair and tying the game.

With a tie game and the bases loaded, Pace would go to their top arm, the No 4 ranked player in Florida’s 2020 class, Victor Mederos. Mederos would come in working with an easy 91-92 mph fastball. He would induce a ground ball from Malachi Woodside, but the go-ahead run would score. Mederos would then finish the inning with another groundout, but not before Jesuit capped the sixth with seven runs and led 9-8.
