Jacksonville, FL- In the first game of day two at the Tournament of Champions, Bishop Verot took on Suwannee at Trinity Christian High School. Bishop Verot would send out 2018 RHP Levi Kelly (LSU) and Suwannee would send out 2018 Hueston Morrill (Oklahoma State). Morrill would struggle a bit in the first, giving up three runs, before settling in.
Levi Kelly on the other hand came out firing on all cylinders, striking out two in the first while working around an error. The LSU commit would have an impressive day, finishing six innings while striking out eight and only allowing two runs. He worked a fastball that ranged from 90-92 mph all day while touching 93 and 94 mph early. The fastball showed quality down angle with some late life. The slider also had noticeably improved. It worked in the 78-81 mph range and he used the pitch as a strikeout pitch, recording six of his eight strikeouts with it.
Suwannee was led by the 2017 Florida recruit, catcher Sam McMillan. McMillan went 1-3 with an RBI to left while also catching a runner stealing. He shows advanced receiving actions with an average arm, but projects as an above average defender.
Bishop Verot’s offense was led by freshmen Zach Thomas who went 3-for-3 with a walk, hit by pitch, two singles, a double and two RBIs. Also having a good day was 2018 3B Matthew Cedarburg who went 2-3 with a double and a hit by pitch.
Suwannee would load the bases in the sixth, but could not push any across eventually falling to Bishop Verot 6-2.
