LHP Jesus Luzardo (Stoneman Douglas HS, FL) is currently the No. 8 prospect in Florida’s 2016 class. A Miami recruit, he stands at 6-foot-1, 205 pounds with a thick, strong and athletic frame. His arm is quick and his delivery is fluid. He has a high leg kick and stays balanced over his backside well. He lands in line and comes through a high-3/4 slot. Luzardo’s fastball has tailing action at 88-92 mph and his curveball has big, two-plane break. He also has a very good changeup that he throws with good arm speed. It has late life at 77-81 and he keeps hitters off balance by throwing it in any count.
As Luzardo approaches the offseason, we caught up with him to talk about his life in baseball and what his future holds.
PBR: You obviously like to play baseball. What drew you to the sport as a young kid?
LUZARDO: What drew me into baseball as a young kid was mainly seeing the passion that my family had for the game. My grandfather would do anything to go see a major league team play, as well as my dad and uncles being big fans of the game. I started playing at the age of 4 and really have great memories of fun moments, which make me love the game myself.
