Florida Diamond Club Team Breakdown: North (Cubs)

By Doug Freeman and Mike Maerz

Lakeland, FL—The Florida Diamond Club takes place each year in mid-October and consists mostly of the top prospects for the current draft class in the state of Florida and Puerto Rico.

Diamond Club is a three-day event that consists of four teams. Each team goes through a pro-style workout, batting practice, and two 10-inning games over the course of the three days at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium.

Over the next few days we will go team by team with reports on every player in attendance this year. Today, we will break down Team North’s (Cubs) top five players, followed by the best of the rest.

Hueston Morrill SS / RHP / Suwannee , FL / 2018

Oklahoma State recruit. Stood out in the field with range, quick feet, and strong throws across the diamond. Makes the tough, off balance throws with accuracy to the bag. At the plate he has a compact swing with above average bat speed and strength. Tripled twice during gameplay. Plenty of athleticism. Although his natural position is the infield, he also caught with a 1.9 pop time and was very intriguing there. He is clearly a player and very versatile. Also was impressive on the mound. Short, quick arm with a fastball ranging from 88-91 mph and a short hard slider at 89-82 mph.
