Florida Burn 2016 Fall Tryouts: 2017 Standouts

By PBR Florida Staff

This past weekend we covered the 2016 Florida Burn Fall Tryouts which showcased nearly 200 players either previously with the Florida Burn or some looking to make a team in the fall. The players ran through a pro-style workout which included infield/outfield, batting practice, and a game on both days as well as some instruction and simulated game action to fill in for some pitchers on day two.

Through the course of the weekend, we had the chance to bear down on players from the 2017-2021 classes. Our scouting staff sat down and evaluated all of the performances over the course of the weekend and below are the reports on those who stood out in the 2017 class.

Bradford Jones. RHP. Venice HS, FL (2017)
6-foot-1, 170 pounds. Fastball ranged from 88-89 mph with the slider ranging from 72-74 mph with a 78 mph changeup. Struckout two giving up no runs and no hits facing his 5 batters in one inning. He is athletic with a strong lower half and quick arm. The fastball has some late life and the slider showed tighter spin with more depth than previous outings.

Tanner Ison. 1B. Gulf Coast HS,FL (2017)
5-foot-10, 190 pound left hander stood out with two hits during game action including an opposite field double just short of the left field wall. He has a strong lower half and clears his hips well generating some bat speed. He consistently finds the barrel with a quality path through the zone.

Alex Arauz. SS. Sarasota HS,FL (2017)
Athletic, 6-foot-2, 185 pound infielder that had two singles during game action with two solid rounds of batting practice. Athletic and projectable, there is some length in the swing, but he has a strong lower half and when he is direct to the baseball he has gap-to-gap power. He looks the part and has soft hands with good actions defensively, but he may end up moving to third as he continues to fill out.
