FL JUCO Sophomore Showcase Standouts
October 23, 2019
The Florida JUCO Sophomore Showcase took place Saturday, October 12th and Sunday, October 13th in Lakeland, Florida. The event featured sophomores from Junior Colleges around the state of Florida participating in a pro-style workout and gameplay. Today, we take a look at some of the standouts from the Florida JUCO Sophomore Showcase.
Michael Rosario (OF, St. John’s River State)
Rosario impressed once again with a plus bat. The Miami commit put up good at bats all day long for St Johns River and left the yard in his last at bat for the cherry on top. Rosario has been on of the best hitters this fall and it will be interesting to watch him this season. With a spread out stance for balance, his length still keeps him tall on the backside to to stay still and short.
Marc Davis (RHP, Florida Southwestern State)
Davis stood out this weekend as one of the best arms in attendance. Facing hitters only helped the Florida Southwestern product with multiple swings and misses on a very sharp, late breaking slider at 78-79 mph and running his fastball up to 93 mph. The arm is clean and loose which bodes well for efficiency. He also has a repeatable delivery with an over the top release conducive to that power breaking ball.
Robert Wegielnik (RHP, Florida Southwestern State)
Another Florida Southwestern arm with a quick arm, Wegielnik displays a short arm action that comes out of the shoulder almost. The fastball sat 90-91 mph with late life and an upper 70s quick breaking ball that he cuffs a bit but brings out of the same slot as the fastball to keep hitters off it long enough.
Nick Winkelmeyer (2B, State College of Florida)
Winkelmeyer is a hard nosed 2B from State College of Florida who played with energy and confidence all day. At the plate he sits low in the back leg and keeps the weight back with a leg kick. Doesn’t do too much with the swing as he lays the barrel on the ball uses the entire field. He stayed on time and fouled off tough pitches for a tough out and a pesky hitter.
