FL Five: Five 2018s To Watch

By Doug Freeman
Florida Scouting Director

October is a big month for potential MLB Draft prospects. With several big events held in the state where many of the top players in Florida will be attending, players who may not have been extremely high on the national scene look to make a rise. Last year, at the 2016 Florida Diamond Club, SS Chris Seise was a standout and began to put all of his tools together which led to an impressive fall, spring and eventually being taken in the first round by the Texas Rangers. With the PBR Draft 100 coming out tomorrow, we take a look at five guys outside of the list who look to make a climb towards the 2017 MLB Draft.

Luca Tresh C / OF / Clearwater Central Catholic, FL / 2018

NC State recruit. 6-foot-1, 185-pound strong, wide-shouldered frame. A quality catching frame, he gets in quality receiving position and will continue to improve with reps. He has a strong arm with a clean transfer that resulted in consistent 2.0 pop times that will improve as his footwork and transfer becomes a bit quicker. At the plate, he has a balanced, wide setup with a simple load. He is short to the ball with a level path through the zone. He shows some pull power, but is more of a gap-to-gap guy currently with power potential. He has an advanced approach, feel for the barrel and that translates to the game. Overall, there is a lot of above average tools that will make him a very interesting overall follow.
