Alex Terwilliger, C, Niskayuna HS, NY (2018) stands an athletic yet slender 5-foot-10, 142-pounds. He showed above average hands and framing ability, behind the plate during live bullpens. From glove to hand he showed a quick transfer, yet he needs to learn to shorten his arm path on throws down to second. At the plate he start wide and tall with his hands at shoulder height. He uses a short and quick back-load for timing on the pitch. Shows a good downward angle towards impact, stays level and through the ball. Should work on his weight distribution. Getting his weight forward more should enable his to stay inside the ball more and create extension. He is an athletic looking catcher, with good instincts. Look forward to seeing him in the future as he grows and gains strength.
Matthew Ferriero, SS, Ravena HS, NY (2017) In the 3 weeks since the PBR -NY games, Ferriero has increased both his infield arm strength and exit velocity. Matthew is a very solid 6-foot-0, 185-pounds. He showed good range to both sides and above average arm strength at 82mph. He looks like a college 3rd basemen and may have to make that transition at the next level, yet he's very smooth. His transfers are clean, to a loose flowing arm action. Very relaxed approach at the plate, contact/line drive hitter. Starts slightly open with a smooth but short load and stride. Stays level and balanced through contact. Could increase power by counter rotating slightly, as his front hip stays slightly open. All things said, a very solid player all around, should be someone to watch in the near future.
Jason Kavanaugh, OF, Ballston Spa NY (2017) stands an athletic 6-foot-0, 155-pounds. Showed good speed during his 60yd. dash at 7.05. In the outfield he moved well to both sides, and showed some carry on his throws at 72mph. Showed clean transfers, to a mid 3/4 arm slot. At the plate he starts slightly open with his hands shoulder at shoulder height. Short and quick load to get back to even. Hands drop slightly on his swing creating a slight drag, yet stays level and on top of the baseball. Showed good bat speed with his exit velo 82mph, and the ability to hit line drives to all fields. Should have gap power as he gains strength and put on weight.
Andrew Perry, 3B, Shenendehowa HS, NY (2018) stands 5-foot-11, 160-pounds with an athletic build. At the plate he hits from the left-side with a wide base, elbow high. On the pitch he uses a slight stride, back load. Short path to the ball, mostly level barrel through contact, short extension with a high athletic finish. Projectable bat. At the corner he stays behind the ball, footwork needs to smooth out some, glove is wide and open out in front, shows a clean transfer, throws from a few arm angles (71 mph) but mostly high-3/4. Overall intriguing corner defender who shows early signs of a next-level bat from the left-side.
Nick Melillo, OF, CBA-Albany HS, NY (2018) all around, for his age, Melillo is a very accomplished ball player. At 5-foot-11 155-pounds, He showed above average arm strength (82mph), Exit velocity (83mph), and speed (7,06 60yd dash). In the outfield he is very aggressive to the ball and through his throws. Able to get the most out his arm creating leverage through his crow hops. Showed a clean to a high 3/4 arm angle. Plus carry on his throws. Able to hit the 3rd baseman on the fly from the gaps. At the plate he starts slightly open but gets back to even with a quick high leg kick. His hands drop slightly creating some drag, but could be corrected easily if he worked on shifting his weight forward. Pull hitter now, but could be corrected easily. Showed good bat speed, and extension out front. Very interesting player, hustler, someone to keep a close eye on in the future.
Derek Gamache, MIF, Lansingburgh HS, (2016) stands an athletic 5-foot-9 165-pounds. In the field he showed good baseball instincts, and above average movement side to side at SS. Hands and feet work well together, clean transfer to a long-free / mid 3/4 arm angle. Good carry and accuracy on his throws at 75mph. At the plate he starts wide and goes knee to knee for timing on the pitch. Bat starts shoulder high. Good downward plane towards the ball, but rolls over before contact. Loses power and the line drive ability his swing should produce. He did although show the ability to generate bat speed with an exit velo of 84mph. Could be a very versatile player if he leans to stay inside the ball, and create extension.
Sean Lyons, OF, Vestal HS, (2016) is a very exciting player to watch, and was among the top performers in every category at the showcase. He's an athletic 5-foot-10, 170-pounds with room for growth. At the plate he stands athletic with his hands high. Turns his front foot in slightly for timing. Able to create extra torque with hand movement. Bat explodes through the zone, stays inside the ball, excellent extension, balanced finish. Able to go deep in the gaps consistently. Showed multiple 88's during his exit velocity testing. Above average outfielder with plus tools. Ran a 7.1 60yd dash. Stays behind the ball, and moves through his throws. Plus arm strength at 83mph with carry. Uses a quick shuffle instead of a crow hop, to a high 3/4 arm slot. Charges balls on the ground aggressively. Complete player, exciting, hard worker, good attitude.
Matthew Toy, C, Niskayuna HS, NY (2017) stands a slender but athletic 6-foot-2, 150-pounds. Behind the plate he is confident and aggressive. Has above average hands and footwork for a 2017. Presents a good target to throw to. Consistent sub 2.1's on throws to 2nd from a high 3/4 arm slot at 74mph. At the plate he stays tall to create leverage. Uses a relaxed back load, and heel lift for timing on the pitch. Bat path is down and straight to the ball, with lift through contact. Finish is out front and high. Line drive hitter. Leader on the field, plays well beyond his age. When this kid gains strength and fills out, should be the top catch in the Capital District.
Ricky Miller, SS/OF, Ballston Spa HS, (2018) at 5-foot-1, 85-pounds Miller isn't the most intimidating player on the field, but as far as skill goes, he's well ahead of the majority of kids his age or size. At SS he moves well from side to side, and is able to change direction quickly. Plus hands, and footwork. Stays low, and shuffles through his throws. High 3/4 arm angle with plus arm strength for his size at 73mph. At the plate he stays tall with his feet shoulder with apart. Hands go straight back on the pitch for timing with a short stride. Drags the bat some through the zone, but is able to stay inside the ball. Bat stays level with lift through contact. High balanced finish. All around he's an impressive player who is able to keep up with guys a foot taller, and 100lbs heavier than him. Fun player to watch, hard worker, when he grows he's going to be a special player.
Jimmy Joyce, 2B/3B, Niskayuna HS, (2019) strong young player at 5-foot-11, 155-pounds with room for growth. From the left side of the plate he has a fluent and relaxed approach. He start tall with his feet shoulder width apart, then drops lower on the pitch with a soft stride forward. By dropping down he creates a level bat path to the ball with lift through contact. Joyce put on an impressive BP session, hitting line drives to all fields. His exit velocity sat at 80-81 mph. In the infield he still has a basic approach, but stays low and through his throws. I would like to see him learn to circle the ball, and keep his his hands out in front.
Ethan Duda, SS/RHP, Albany Academy HS, NY (2019) stands an athletic 5-foot-7, 140-pounds with room for growth. Plus foot-speed for his age, evidenced by a (7.14) 60-yd. dash. The freshman was very impressive during his BP round consistently putting line-drives to the warning track. He's an aggressive hitter with a good rhythmic approach. He starts tall with his feet shoulder width apart. He starts his weight back, with a high leg kick, and slight wrap on the pitch for timing. He aggressively puts the bat through the zone on a downward plane, then extends and finishes high. Creates tremendous backspin and carry. Exit Velo was 80mph. At SS he moves well from side to side, and gets to balls easily in the hole. His set up is low with his hands out front. Stays low to his shuffle and through his throws. Throws from a low-mid arm slot. Energetic young player, look forward to seeing him again.
Thomas Barkevich, OF/C, Shenendehowa HS, NY (2018) stands an athletic 6-foot-0, 170-pounds with wide shoulders and room for growth. At the plate his approach is very relaxed with the bat of his shoulder. He has a smooth backload and weight shift to get his hands in the correct position to hit, He bat path is downward through the zone, but extends high through contact. As he matures and gains strength he could become a homerun threat. Behind the plate his set-up is low with a slightly open stance. He showed above average hands and blocking ability. Should work on his transfers and form to 2nd -base. Could save time by staying low an exploding forward instead of standing up. Made up for his form with a strong throwing arm. Threw a consistent 2.18 down to second. Good baseball actions, all around a very likable young player.
Matt Appleton, OF, Cushing Academy HS, NY (2016) stands an athletic 5-foot-8, 150-pounds in a strong smaller frame. He showed some quickness running a very respectful 6.87 laser timed 60yd dash. From the right side at the plate he starts shoulder width apart, with his hands slightly behind his head. Brings his hands back slightly with stride for timing. Bat stays level through the zone, producing line drives. Good extension with high finish. Occasionally spins out on back leg and loses balance. Hard worker, good athlete.
Lewi Clarke, OF, Saratoga Springs HS, NY (2018) has been to three events in the last year, and keeps getting better. He's grown an inch (now 5-foot-11), and now appears stronger. He's improved his arm strength as well, going from 78 to 80-81 from the outfield. He was a very aggressive outfielder last time we saw him, and looks even more comfortable now. At the plate he showed a tremendous ability to get the bat quickly through the zone. This time he also showed the ability to hit the ball to right field, as he hit 3 continuous line drives deep in the gap. As an outfielder, Lewi is as good as it gets for a rising sophomore, and expect his numbers to jump even more as he grows and gains strength.
David Judge, 3B/RHP, Troy HS, NY (2018) stands 6-foot-1, 182-pounds, with still room for growth. We first saw Judge at the Future Prospects Showcase last July, and impressed our staff of scouts. Right now, Judge looks more like a College Junior, instead of a High School Sophomore. In a showcase loaded with some big upperclassmen bats, David put on an absolute hitting clinic, sending more than half the pitches he saw over the left and center field fence. He has tremendous bat speed, and power, evidenced by a 93mph exit velocity (top at the showcase). He's a next level hitter right now, and only gets better. Crazy to think he still has 3 more years of High School ball, as he led him team to a sectional final last year as a freshman.
Ben Funyak, SS, Niskayuna HS, NY (2018) stands an athletic and strong 6-foot-3, 195-pounds. He's an intimidating young ball player, who shows some next level skills at a young age. At the plate from the right side, he starts in an even, balanced stance with his feet shoulder width apart. His approach is simple as he uses a small stride for timing on the pitch. Could gain even more bat speed with a slight counter-rotation. Bat path is down and level through the zone, excellent extension and high finish over his shoulder. Showed excellent batspeed and power, evidenced by an 87mph exit velocity. In the field he moves well from side to side, but his approach is very linear, and takes ground balls head on. Would like to see him learn to circle the baseball. Shows a clean funnel to a high 3/4 arm slot at 78mph across the diamond. Follows his throws. Accurate Arm. As of right now his size may make him a corner infielder at the next level, but he has a lot of time to improve form and athleticism. Very impressive strong young player.
Joseph Novenche, C/2B, Shenendehowa HS, NY (2018) - At a showcase flooded with upperclass catchers, Novenche solidified himself as one of the best. Standing a strong 5-foot-9, 170-pounds the rising sophomore was a consistently under 2.0 (1.88 best) down to 2nd base from a high 3/4 slot. Plus arm strength at 81mph. He showed an above average transfer and framing ability. Would like to see his glove be horizontal in his setup. Aggressive in his pop. At the plate his setup is slightly open and shoulder width apart. Gets back to even with a short heel for timing. Bath path is direct to the ball with lift. Full hip rotation and high balanced finish. Interesting player to watch for, as he matures and gains strength.
Zach Durfee, OF, Ballston Spa HS, NY (2016) is ranked in the top 5 in the state as an outfielder for a reason. He does everything very well, and keeps getting better. He was at the top of every measurable category at the Burgh showcase, and during his BP rounds he showed even more power than the last time we saw him. Putting 2 balls deep over the left field fence, and 1 ball to straight away center. Consistently he's a 6.7 runner with excellent movement from side to side in the outfield. Projects as a center fielder at the next level, and could play there right now. Throws downhill, with carry. Cutoff 3 balls in the gap and each ball on the fly to 3rd base was 86mph or better. Hardnosed player, fearless. Body still shows room for growth. Great baseball actions, Overall the best player at the showcase. Can help a college ball club win right now.
Andrew Bennett, C/OF, Shaker HS, NY (2018) athletic 5-foot-10, 150-pound frame with a ton of room for growth. Not exceptional in any tool but gets better every season. Improved his pop time dramatically since February from a 2.26 to a 2.06. Also improved his framing ability and transfer. Throws from a very accurate high 3/4 arm slot. Very quick behind the plate. Keeps balls in front with ease. At the plate he's improved his exit velo from 73-80mph. Looks more comfortable at the plate as well. Starts slightly open but gets back to even with stride. Has a short back load for timing. Bath path to the ball is flat, but has lift through the ball. Finishes high and balanced. Line-drive hitter. Confident player that's still a bit raw, but has the chance to be exceptional if he can put it all together.
Connor Farrington, LHP, Saratoga Catholic HS, NY (2017) fun player to watch at only 5-foot-11, 135-pounds. Room for growth all over. There isn't much to him, but he's able to generate good hand speed, and be consistently in the high 70's. Uses a mid drop and drive method. Throws from a mid 3/4 arm slot, has good glove action. Should work on finishing out front and getting over his front foot. Departs clean from the rubber with some drag. Curve ball shows late 11/5 action with depth. All around an above average pitcher for his size. Velo could jump dramatically as he gains strength. Tough competitor, Looking forward to seeing him again this spring.

Defensively- Showed average but very efficient fielding skill now. Hands and feet work well together. Stays low and shuffles through his throws. Throws from a lower 3/4 arm angle. Uses a long toe tap and back load for timing on the pitch. Keeps front side closed. Level bat path with lift through contact. High balanced finish. Bonilla was very tough on the 5 hitters he faced live, with his fastball sitting 83-84, and a hard 12/6 curve with late break that he was able to throw for strikes. Bat explodes on a downward plane at foot-strike. Stays inside the ball, with lift through contact. High balanced finish. Wide target behind the plate, with athletic actions. Blocks balls easily. Above average all around, and solid power from both sides of the plate. Hard worker, fun player to watch.
