West Futures Position Player Analysis |
Adam Chase, 1B/OF, Webster Schroeder HS, NY (2018) (West) Stands at 5-foot-10, 140-pounds, with a lean athletic body build. He has a smooth approach through the ball, with smooth, soft, quick hands, throws with a high 3/4 arm slot, plays through the ball nicely and has accuracy on the target. At first base looked good fielding through the ball and throwing the ball across the diamond to third base. At the plate setup is open stance, short stride, with a smooth load. His hands are very compact and strong, swinging with mid-section finish through the ball.
Charles Mack, SS/3B, Williamsville East HS, NY (2018) (West) Mack, a member of the 2018 class of Williamsville East HS was the talk of the Futures Events. The broad shoulder, yet overly athletic left side infielder not only put up some impressive measureables with a 100 MPH Exit Velo, 6.94 60 time and arm strength at 82 MPH but was flawless with his glove during the games and showed pinpoint accuracy on all his throws across the diamond. The LHH can use the whole field and already has some plus power to his pull side. Impressive display during his BP rounds. Will develop into a true next level 3B type both offensively and in the field. Recently committed to Clemson.
Trevor Henneman, C, Corning HS, NY (2018) (West) has great size behind the plate standing 6-foot-2, wide thick shoulders, wide base. Receives ball clean with big target. Pop-times 2.02 with accurate quick release from a 75 mph arm, signs of better times as matures. Swings a big stick from the right side, 92 mph exit velocity from a short-compact swing showing bat-speed and strength combo. Ran extremely well for catcher and player his size 6.89 60 yard-dash. Big-time player to follow.
Ethan Pasco, OF, Niagara Falls Canada (2018) (West) Pasco, who resides just over the border in Niagara Falls (Ontario side) ran an eye popping 60 at 6.35. The left handed hitter showed the propensity of trying to get the ball on the ground the other way and other intangibles that any leadoff hitter should possess (deep counts, wasting tough pitches, swiping bags early in the count). Bat angle does produce some drag and will occasionally lead to some fly balls that will work against his best asset. Will need to continue to improve arm strength (72 MPH) by utilizing his crow hop better and lengthening his arm action to allow for some better carry.
Mitch Taylor, OF/C, Tioga HS, NY (2018) (West) Stands at 5-foot-9, 145-pounds, with an athletic body build. He has a smooth approach through the ball, with smooth, soft, quick hands, throws with a high 3/4 arm slot, plays through the ball nicely and has accuracy on the target.
