PBR Canada mizuno prospects of the week
Jakob Poturnak SS / 3B / International School Manila, BC / 2022Rankings StateRank: 5 / POS: 2
Poturnak, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound Xavier commit out of the North Shore Twins program, stands out with his athletic frame. At the plate the setup is simple with not too many moving parts, has good hand path to the ball and displays some strength to the pull side. In the infield the feet move quickly side to side, will cover a lot of ground and has a quick transfer out of the glove. Performed well during the Canadian JNT trip to Florida. Will be an interesting follow come summer time.

Kody Butt LHP / OF / Waterford Valley, NL / 2022Butt, a 5’10 145lbs Williston State College commit out of the Premier Sports Academy, packs a punch on the mound with a fastball that has been up to 85 from the left side. Butt will mix in a 3-pitch repertoirse geared towards attacking hitters with a fastball that lives at the knees and a curveball that will keep hitters out front. In the delivery Butt shows good drive off the back leg with an aggressive tempo to his pitching motions.

Asafa Jones OF / LHP / TNXL Academy, ON / 2024Rankings OverallRank: 366 / POS: 61
Jones, a 5’10 180 lbs, uncommitted 2024 out of the Canes Florida program has talent all over the baseball field, making him a must-watch player. At the plate the hands stand out big time with a smooth relaxed tempo to it, hard for a pitcher to beat him with his quick hands and fast twitch. The lower half has good leverage with a solid wide base. The arm is live from the outfield getting up to 87Mph with room to grow. Will also cover some ground out there with his long legs and fast first step. Was a standout at the Junior Future Games and a must get for a college program wanting to add a solid athlete to their program.
|
Joe Gagnon 1B / OF / St. Marys, AB / 2022Gagnon, a big 6-foot-4, 215-pound Western Oklahoma State JC commit out of the Calgary Bucks program has the size and strength to be a serious bat at the college level. At the plate the hands are loaded, stays in his legs till contact and has good extension on his hits. Gagnon has shown to have power potential to the pull side with a swing that has natural loft to it. At first he looks confident and relaxed with solid footwork. Will definitely be a name to look out for at the college level.

Xavier Boutin 1B / RHP / TNXL Academy, FL / 2023Boutin, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound uncommitted 2023 out of the Canes Florida is one of the most intriguing names in his class. Can have a chance to be two-way in college. The bat stands out big time with a twitch load and a smooth lower half. Seems to find barrels on all his swings. Has great plate coverage and hands that will spray the ball to all parts of the field. At first he has a good body for the position and looks at home there. On the mound the arm action is smooth and loose with a long arm action. Has good command of all his pitches and will keep batters off balance at any point with a curveball that has nice depth to it. Had a great showing at the Future games on the mound and at the plate. Definitely a steal for a program looking for a 2 way to add to their program.
