FORT MYERS—In the first semifinal game of the 1A state tournament, Blountstown faced off against Northview in what ended up being an action-packed game that Blountstown ended up winning 7-4. Blountstown was led by 2017 OF/IF Tyreek Sumner who went 3-4 with 3 RBIs and, although it was not enough, Northview was fueled by 2016 C/1B Thomas Moore who went 3-4 with a HR and 3 RBIs.
Northview jumped on the board early when Moore drove his solo home run over the Green Monster in left to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. After a scoreless second inning, the Tigers responded in the third by scoring four runs, three of which came off Sumner’s bases-clearing double. However, in the bottom half of the inning, the Chiefs managed to get two runs back off a single by Moore that was laced off the Green monster.
With Blountstown still leading 4-3 but the momentum in Northview’s favor, the Tigers were able to put the game away by scoring two in the top of the fourth, one that came off an error and one on a sacrifice fly by 2017 IF Bryson Horne.
Both teams were able to pick up one more run apiece but the momentum never left Blountstown after they took the 6-3 lead. Blountstown will now face Williston tonight for the 1A state championship.
