Logan Allen has been absolutely lights out this Spring. The Sophomore lefty who has committed to Alabama St, had a 0.62 ERA with 100 strikeouts in 67.2 innings going into last nights regional final against the favored Olympia Titans. The 5-foot-11, 150 pounder is no imposing figure on the mound and doesn’t throw hard enough to intimidate anybody, but he sends an awful lot of hitters back to their dugout with nothing but frustration. The scouting report on Allen is that he has a lean athletic loose projectable body on a medium sized frame. Smooth fluid delivery with a loose easy working arm at a high 3/4 slot. Repeats delivery and pounds the strike zone with 3 pitches. Locates fast ball at 81-84 mph, and commands the curve ball which is a tight downer with some depth. Can bury it down and in to right handed hitters and also can back door it. Throws it in any count. Change up has late life with good arm speed and sets it up well. Has tremendous pitchability and composure for a young kid. Pitches back ward and keeps hitters off balance. He 2 hit Olympia last night in the regional final.
His Coach Frank Martello says about Logan, “Logan is a fine young man from a great family. His older brother Hunter caught for me last year and is now at Alabama State with Coach Melendez. Logan is a solid A-B student, a hard worker and has the respect of his peers. What he is doing now as a sophomore is indicative of his maturity, level headeness and ability. Logan competes with every pitch and is an intelligent and crafty lefthander (hard to find both, lol). He has three pitches he can throw for strikes, has a good disposition on the mound and fields his position well. Logan swings the bat a little bit (.300) and hits right handed. He might be a lefty in a right handers body. I like his maturity, baseball IQ and ability to compete. Logan did deal with an illness mid-season and missed a full two weeks. Once cleared we brought him back slowly with the goal of starting the first game of our district tournament. He has done a tremendous job since and really you will see from his numbers - all year”
9-2, 0.62 era, 100 Ks 67.2 inn
University will travel to Ft Myers next Wednesday to take on Timber Creek HS in the State semi-final tournament.
